We enjoyed a stay in the Rockford area. The highlight of the stay here was spending time with our daughter Amanda and her husband Aiden. We checked out Activation Games. What a fun experience playing through many of the rooms of mental and physical team games. Then to Lazy Dog for a delicious lunch. So fun to spend time with them! We toured our first Frank Lloyd Wright house, the Laurent House. The Laurent House is the only building designed by Architect Frand Lloyd Wrigth for a person with a disability. The single-story Usonian home is a rare mid-century design featuring a solar hemicycle footprint and is considered one of the most well-preserved Wright homes in existence. Our docent, Larry, was very knowledgeable and seemed to enjoy sharing information about the house and the Laurents. Next ... read more

Finale The Anchorage-Seattle/Seattle-O'Hare flights home were long but uneventful. The limo was right there waiting for us at O'Hare. Four weary bodies were shuttled home to Rockford. We finally settled down about two in the morning. Dave and I were out at the airport at seven the next morning, hopped in the 182 and flew to Forrest City, IA to pick up the car. Again thanks to Dick and Vera Hynes (Forest City and Cedar Hammock residents) for hosting our car in their driveway for three weeks. As we drove by the Winnebago plant we saw another hundred Minnie Winnies lined up on the staging field waiting to be delivered to who knows where. We were told that there's a great shortage of workers at Winnebago and they cannot manufacture motorhomes fast enough. Five-hour drive back ... read more

I must admit I had sneaked several peeks under the slideout during my stay at the Rivers Edge Campground in Stevens Point WI to see if the tires on the driver’s side of the Pilgrim had lost any air. They had not; however, it was with a great deal of uneasiness that I set forth for Rockford IL, near where I was raised and where I spent most of my working life. I already had made an appointment at a local RV dealership to have routine maintenance functions performed on the Pilgrim as well as to complete a few repairs. The ole gal is a 2005 model, has logged quite a few trouble-free miles (for the most part) and has had a permanent occupant for 6 ½ years. Has it really been that long? Yes, even ... read more

Having spent some time planning visits with family and friends as well as allowing for some impromptu sibling time, I had a pretty full schedule for my three weeks in northern Illinois when I departed Springfield IL on Wednesday, September 18, 2013. With the exception of a 20-30 minute downpour on I-39 that reduced ALMOST everyone’s speed to 35-40 mph, the three-hour trip was uneventful. Welcome back to the Midwest! Rockford, for all of its shortcomings, has an excellent park system and has numerous well-done festivals. Unfortunately, a couple of the better festivals - the Experimental Aircraft Association Fly-In and the On the Waterfront festival - have departed for whatever reason. I decided to check the events schedule and found that a World War II Reenactment would be held at Midway Village in Rockford during my ... read more

Picked up Keith and Dana Moyer at 6:00 am. Arrived at hotel 1/2 hour before check in at 2:30 pm (3:30 pm Eastern) - made great time on the roads. Crossed in to the USA at Sarnia - took all of 5 minutes - NICE! Rob encouraged all the girls at the hotel to go for a run. Also, he arranged for a great meal for all to be brought to the hotel.... read more

When we left our friends in New Hampshire, we headed up into Maine. We started our Maine trip with a three day stay in Boothbay Harbor. We went on a whale watch trip, and saw whales, and a lot of seals. We were on the water about 4 hours. It was sunny, but quite cool for our Florida bodies. When we got back from the whale watching, we went to a nice restaurant on the dock, and ate whole lobster dinners. Back at our campsite, we leaned back and enjoyed looking at the stars. We got to see several meteor showers. Pretty awesome to watch them. The next day, we went into town, and shopped. Their are a lot of nice shops there, and we found some souveniers to bring home. On the way into town ... read more

The sun remained elusive at best for the first nine days we were in Rockford. Actually, the timing of the crummy weather was great, because I had business to conduct and (as my health improved with the antibiotics) Kay came down with a pretty severe cold herself. Fortunately she didn’t get as sick as I had been, but neither of us were physically ready to put on the dancing music during the first week of our visit. As we had occasion to find ourselves in various areas of Winnebago and Boone Counties, I showed Kay where I had grown up in Cherry Valley, where I had gone to school and where I had worked. Of course several visits were made to relatives and friends, but I tried to prevent Kay from feeling like she was on ... read more
