Hi guys, I just thought I would write my first (and hopefully not last) journal entry for my trip to western Europe. Just a fun little tid-bit for your and my enjoyment: So far I have spent a ton of time preparing for this trip and I still have a ton more to do before I leave. I have to gather up all my gear and make sure I have everything I could possibly need so that I won't suffer later (that would really suck). I am defiantly not going to make the same mistakes I did with New Zealand, but then again this is going to be a completely different experience (so much colder! yikes!). I am hoping that the hostels reach the same standard as those in New Zealand though. The pictures from the ... read more

Alright well I can't go quite yet as I'm still in the preparation stages. I'm still trying to get my itinerary straight along with calling all my loan companies and telling them I'm taking a leave of absence. What a pain in the ass! So I've gotten the approval from my school and now all that needs to be done is to book the tickets....easier said then done. Well essentially this first entry is a test and also the begining of a journey that I hope will allow me to become a stronger and more compassionate human being. I guess we'll find out soon enough as I plan on leaving around Nov 15th. Wish me luck.... read more

September 13 - October 2, 2006 Chatham, Cape Cod, Mass. - Chicago, Ill. 20,143 miles to date 1,792 miles this leg We’ve been squinting a lot in the last two weeks, now that we’re traveling west into the setting sun. Our generally southern route through New England took a decided right-hand turn when we departed Cape Cod, Mass. All the months we spent driving east, the roadway was nicely backlit during our preferred afternoon driving hours. I remember thinking how bright that same low-slung sun would be when we reversed direction. You'll notice our odometer rolled over the 20,000 mile mark since beginning this trip. Also, our outbound track crossed our inbound track on Sept. 21, near Olean, N.Y., and Allegany National Forest. We couldn’t have made a continuous circle out of our trip because we ... read more

Hello everyone. We´ve been a fair few places since the last update, let us rewind to Chicago. I will just point out that we don´t have any pictures of Chicago and New York as we lost the effing camera!!! Not overly happy about it as we had roughly 550 pics and were just about to get them burned onto CD but we can´t let it cloud our adventure and are bravely pressing on with a new camera we bought in Miami. Back to Chicago anyway, very nice clean city. We were amazed at the number of skyscapers it had and it seemed the biggest city we had visited so far but also one of the safer and more laid back. Our first night we enjoyed dinner in a very nice English pub (I know, I know) ... read more

Sorry again... still no pictures for you guys. We promise to correct this situation as soon as possible! Well, we got an awesome hotel deal for Chicago so we are staying in luxury for 2 days! We have a central location and a great room at the Hilton. It feels good to be pampered sometimes! We did the architectural boat tour of Chicago which was a great way to learn about the city and view it from the river. Chicago is a true architectural marvel. Old and new, all buildings fit together extremely well and have a lot of thought behind their design...and also cost more money than anyone can imagine to live in. We walked to the piers and the millenium park. The millenium park has 2 cool features: a fountain that has a huge ... read more

Alright so again I've not done so well with updating this. I even forgot to update about the most bizarre thing i've done on this whole trip - I saw a movie in a funeral home! Don't ask why, that's just weird American weirdness for you! Actually I should correct myself, that's California for you! What else have i been up to? I got a tatoo in San Francisco, I went to Yosemite national park, I did lots of fun things in Palo Alto like visiting the Jelly Belly factory... um I forgot what else. Kyli (another one of the counsellors from camp) and I went to New York, which was crazy, intimidating and amazing. On the day we got there the airport people tried their best to lose our bags (and were so blase about ... read more

Well, things are pretty much ready to go. I've bought everything I need for my trip and we booked our hostel stay for the first five nights in downtown Madrid! We'll be staying on Gran Via...which seems to be in a great part of the city! It's close to downtown and should be pretty sweet from what I've read about it. Hope the rest of you are ready for this (i'm really not yet haha)... I promise it will be a wild ride (complete with pictures)!! :) ... read more

I have finally arrived in The Windy City (apparently)....whoever named this city has obviously never been to Wellington! After what was the longest day of my life I arrived at the hostel in Chicago last night ready to attempt to sleep off the jetlag. What I didn't expect was to meet two lovely girls the moment I stepped foot into my dorm and go out for some drinks. Thus extended the longest day by a few hours. At 2am (5pm the next day in Sydney) I crawled into bed. My sleep for cut short when the girl from Detroit and the girl from Oxford (yes it is a little contradictory) woke me up when they tripped over their own suitcases and thus giggling continuously for five mins. Ordinarily I would have been slightly aggravated (for anyone ... read more
