My parents are about to take me to the airport. Anytime I start to get nervous I just remember this song that John taped to my door 2 nights ago: "Managua, Nicaragua, what a wonderful spot There's coffee and bananas and a temperture hot So take a trip on a ship and go sailing away Across the agua to Managua Nicaragua ole ole ole Across the agua to Managua Nicaragua ole" See you all in April!... read more

Today Russ and I caught the Metra train into Chicago to take on the city. First stop, Sears Tower Skydeck which we found with no trouble. We paid our $22 and made our way to the 103rd floor to take in the sights of the city. The windows could have been a bit cleaner but it was pretty cool to get an overview of the Windy City. I had been determined to see 'The Bean' whilst here so we blindly walked the streets trying to find it as I hadn't packed a map. After walking for what seemed like an eternity we found the Navy Pier so we checked that out. Russ had some 'Future Maccas' as he has a never ending stomach and then we set out on our jouney again to find The Bean. ... read more

It's been another busy few days for Russ and I. We only ended up staying in Kansas City the night as we couldn't really find much to do. We were there on Monday and everything seemed to be closed so we decided to push on. We spent the afternoon driving to St. Louis where we spent the night in a Walmart carpark. We followed a maze of signs to get to this one RV park but at $50 night we thought we'd make do with a freebie at Walmart. Yesterday was spent at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. We paid the $10 each to take the tram to the top of the arch, now, when I say tram I really mean pod like thing. We didn't really know what to expect and it sort of ... read more

I'm not sure if I'm ready to do this, but ready or not I'm going to do it. I've always talked about going and bragged about it to my friends but I never thought I could actually get my lazy ass to get organized and plan a 4 month trip around the world. Well I did it, I booked my tickets last night and will be setting off on 11/13/06 on what should be a life changing journery through southern africa, southeast asia, and the Indian subcontinent. I start my journey in Johannesburg where I will rest for a few days and join a safari group out to Krueger NP. From there I'll grab a rental car and do the garden route till Capetown. Then somehow get up to Victoria Falls and from there we'll see ... read more

Greetings from the Windy City - Chicago! Brrrr, it's 5 degrees today, wet AND windy, what a treat! I last wrote from Texas, where we had our flip flops on, and could stroll the river bank with a cold drink in hand. That's not the case here in Chicago! Back in San Antonio and we knew we had to visit the Alamo, as it's their major attraction. I didn't know much about the place, but apparently it's where a few hundred Americans held off a few thousand Mexicans in some battle, years ago. I guess America does war a little differently now........! I wanted to see the Alamo itself, because it's set in a nice parkland area, but first of all, we went and saw the IMAX film, explaining what happened at the battle. IMAX films ... read more

So, i left for Chicago with Matt and Nick at 5pm and we once again clambered onto a greyhound and endured a 12 hour bus ride. The highlight for me personally was when i had to pay $6 us dollars at the border, but had no US money on me and was consequently sent out into the very cold night (this was i think at about 12 or 1 in the morning) with fairly vague directions towards a place i could exchange my Canadian dollars for "real money". Anyway i made it through otherwise with no worries and we arrived in Chicago fairly disgruntled at 5 in the morning. What is there to do at 5 in the morning? Sit in a greyhound bus station for a couple of hours until check in. The greyhound is ... read more

Hi Everyone, Sorry not been on the blog for a while, not had easy internet access but will be updating them all over next few days. Just found all our messages as well so thanks to all sending them, it is nice to hear from you. Will check them more often now as didn,t realise anyone was sending us any! Well arrived in Chicago after a slight flight delay which was caused (to our surprise) by snow!! It wasn't actually snowing when we arrived but was cold and of course very windy. Hotel was really easy to find as we had brilliant directions and it was straight on the train line from the airport. Great B&B, great room and little kitchen area, quite homely really. On our first night we met a couple from Canada and ... read more
