We got up at a reasonable time today and made our way down to an establishment called Eataly. I’d read about this place because they have a Nutella bar there but it was so much more then that when we arrived. There was not only the amazing Nutella bar, there was a panini bar, a pasta bar, an icecream bar, a pastries bar and a shop as well with fresh fruit and vegies etc.
Marnee got herself a Nutella crepe which looked fantastic but I was feeling in more of a savoury mood so went for the most delicious salami panini. It was huge so only made it through half; put the other half in my bag for later.
From there, we headed in the direction of Navy Pier. On the way we came across some lovely fireman and some ambos too, it was all happening in the city this morning. We continued down to Navy Pier but it started spitting on the way. The weather was looking pretty sketchy but we had a look around the pier for a bit anyway. We sat and had some of my panini, I even got Marnee to try it before heading off in the direction of the shops. We checked out some on the Magnificent Mile before heading to some near the famous Chicago Theatre. We did a little shopping before walking to The Willis Tower to do the Skydeck.
I did this last time I was in Chicago and suggested it was worth doing. When we got there the line to get tickets wasn’t too bad, but after that, the line to get in was ridiculous. We waited for ages going through different areas in more queues until finally reaching the lift to go to the top. It still was just as spectacular as last time – the 360 degree views from up there are amazing. We took quite a few photos before heading down and walking back to the hotel. On the way we stopped off at a place called Pizzeria Uno for a quick bite before our boat cruise. Marnee got another deep dish pizza and I got some boneless chicken bites tossed in buffalo coating, they were so tasty.
From there we walked back to the hotel, got ready and jumped in a cab to head to the Wendella Cruises Dock next to the Wrigley building on Michigan Av.
It started to rain while waiting in line to board which wasn’t ideal but lucky there was an indoor area on the boat. We got a drink each and took a seat. After departing we travelled down the Chicago River and out on to Lake Michigan, passing Navy pier on the way out. We got a brief narration on the way out including some history of Chicago. We travelled north on Lake Michigan for a bit before turning south and going past Grant Park. The city looked stunning and the weather cleared up, thank goodness so we spent a bit of the time outside. Two hours later we returned to the dock quite intoxicated as we had made many visits to the bar.
We disembarked the boat and went in search of some dinner. We walked to a little place up the road called the Purple Pig but the menu didn’t look very appealing. So instead we walked back in the direction of our hotel to the double story McDonald’s just to get something light and quick. On leaving McDonalds we walked past a fight going on out front but crossed the road to avoid it and headed back to the hotel for some snooze. No physical sign of Nick all day.
