For some reason Bec was awake at the crack of dawn today, literally. She woke at 5:45am but thankfully didn’t make too much noise until about 6:45am when I woke. Bec made us a cup of tea and we lazed around for a bit before getting ready to go and pick up our hire car from Alamo Car Rentals.
We had booked an economy car online expecting a Chevrolet Aveo then when it came to going out to the car the guy asked, "Which one do you want?" Well, of course we'll take the little Volkswagen Beetle, thank you.
We asked if we should take a photo of the few dints that were on it and the guy replied, "Nah you've got full cover anyway." Okay, cool.
We jumped in, worked out which side of the road to be on and off we went in the direction of McDonalds to get some wifi and work out where we were headed.
We had some breakfast there, and researched where we wanted to head. We decided on doing the North shore so headed on the H1 Freeway to School Street to then get on the LikeLike Freeway. After about 8miles we realised we
were heading the wrong way around the island but went with it anyway. We stopped at a few beaches on the way for some photo opportunities. The beaches and the water were stunning. It was already 33 degrees so I dipped my feet in the water at one of the beaches while the girls went to the bathroom.
Next, we stopped briefly in at the Mormon Temple to take a photo then continued up to Turtle Bay. On arrival there were trailers and various filming equipment everywhere; it appeared we had found where Zac Efron was filming his next movie.
We had a quick walk around the bay, saw a seal that decided to do some sunbaking on the beach and left, headed for our next stop Sunset Beach. We didn’t actually find Sunset beach so continued on to Shark Bay.
We stopped in for some ice-cream and photos then continued to Waimea Falls. Entry was $16 and was going to take a half hour each way and we didn’t have the time so we continued on the drive to North Shore.
That was enough for us, so we cut back through the middle of the island to go to
the Waikele Premium Outlets. On the way we followed the GPS and it took us into the Schofield Barracks Wheeler Army Airfield.. With no way out we had to just drive up to the Army Security who were holding guns and profusely apologise for coming in. After our embarrassment and a laugh we made our way to the outlets.
We stayed for a few hours getting some bargains before deciding we should get the rental car back as it was already 5:30pm. And lucky we did as it said it was still going to take 47mins to get back because of traffic. That still left us with plenty of time but we didn’t bother doing anything else for the day with the car. It had cost us less than US$100 for the whole day.
We came back to the hotel, had a chill then showered and got ready to make the 35mins trek on foot to the 24hr Walmart. We were in there for much longer than we should have been but that's what happens when you get in a Walmart.
From there we made our way back on foot to the hotel, stopping at McDonald's on the way for
dinner as we hadn't eaten and it was almost 11:30pm.
We got back to the hotel just before midnight and hit the hay as we were getting picked up at 6:30am for our Pearl Harbor tour in the morning.
