Tammmyyyy!!!!!
looking tre chic After a brilliant 6.5 hour flight from Denver to Honolulu (with a unexpected slot in Economy Plus on United, the leg room was bitchin'), we were greeted by Team Cheateaux, Hawaii chapter. Allan's brother Aaron and his wife Tammy Bo-bammy live in Wahiawa, pretty much smack dab in the middle of Oahu, and will be now and forever known as "Team Danger". With some really choice digs off base, we are free to come and go as we please...
But first things first....
The beach! We head straight to the north shore for some swimming and body surfing at keikis after we pick Jami up some new swim fins. The Churchhills finally had it and she's been looking for something a bit stiffer. It felt amazing to slide into 80 degree perfection. Air? 80 degrees. Water? 80 degrees. Wind? light. Entirely to comfortable.
Evening finds us at Mackys Shrimp Truck, a north shore institution and Team Danger's favorite by far. If you find yourself on the south side of Haleiwa town, swing by Mackys. The spicy hot is the shaz. Then off to Flavormania Ice Cream where they sell..... homemade ice cream. The Coco-Mac Nut, Almond Coco Fudge,
Keiki's
a rad little beach on the north shore, perfect for bonfires. Coconut cream.... hell anything coconut is were its at.
We dawn patrol it to Rightovers and Leftovers. Few folks out and variable surf means enough waves for all. After a few head high fun ones, Jami takes a left that shelfed and gets bounced. She paddles back out and shows me her back that is dripping blood pretty good. Game over. We negoiate the reef to get her cleaned up and head off on a hike in the Wahiawa hills. 5 miles takes us a little over 3 hours, a testament to the shear burliness of HI terrain.
We head off to town to swoop up the creator of the male contingent of Team Cheateaux, aka Mom Dukes, aka Incredible Red, aka The Tam. A week with mom in Hawaii is great.
