Of course it's always beautiful in Waikiki, and hot, and sunny.
Much needed rest
I have been working only my one Activity Tour Agency job since the beginning of June. I have been so busy working and playing, I haven't had time to blog, but I am going to try to catch up now.
Daiei: My favorite Japanese grocery store. I am addicted to these rice cookies..yum.
My roommate moved in to a high rise apartment to work for a psychiatrist, who is right out of “Running with Scissors”. She has to live with this rich alcoholic 72 year old who just got out of jail for her 3rd DUI. Her responsibilities include taking the drunk lady to the bar twice a week and allowing her to consume 4 drinks each time, making sure the lady doesn’t get men to buy her more drinks. I get to visit the luxury apartment and watch cable TV and swim in the rooftop pool and use the sauna and weight room.
I've done a tour/activity virtually every weekend. So far:
I went on a dinner cruise with my manager and some of the agents. There were six of us all
together. The agent couple brought a couple of guests. It seems that, on the side, the agent couple run a half way house and they brought a couple of the half way's. One of the half way's, a lady of about 50 or so, became sea sick and was throwing up in a bag, at our dinner table. It was so gross. I tried to ignore her, but my manager, who was giving her some evil looks, kept hitting my arm to make me look at her. My manager and I went out on the deck to get away from her until the show started. We were lucky enough to see a beautiful double rainbow over the city as the sun was setting. I had some free drink tickets, so I had a couple of lava flows. Delicious. It is the first time I have had a drink in ages.
I went to a show called Society of Seven. It is a group of seven Filipino boys performing and doing impersonations. It was pretty funny. I brought a new friend, from Oz, with me and we had a hard time fending off the entertainers when they tried to pull
us up onstage (I hate that).
I swam with wild Spinner dolphins..the best tour yet. We had such a great time out on this zodiac boat, listening to music, snorkeling, swimming with dolphins and riding very, very fast. Then back to the marina for a great lunch.
I went to a Luau and discovered I actually kind of like poi, especially with mahi mahi.
I saw a great Samoan show at the Polynesian Cultural Center.
I snorkeled in Hanauma Bay...beautiful and I got to come very, very close to a sea turtle and watch him/her eat for about 10 minutes.
I did a 4 hour sea kayak tour and fell out after about 10 minutes (it is very hard to get back in out in the middle of the ocean). We kayaked to "flat island" where there are birds that just lay their one egg a year right out in the open and hang around people. There are no natural enemies of the birds on the island so they have no qualms going about their business with people walking around.
I did a circle island tour on a big bus.
I took a
duck tour (the vehicle that drives on the road then drives into the ocean) of Pearl Harbor and Honolulu.
I went to Kualoa Ranch and rode an atv, took a jungle tour in some russian 6 wheel (very bumpy) vehicle, went on a movie set tour (saw a bunch of LOST and Jurassic Park filming locations), and went on a hike overlooking Chinaman's Hat).
I took a flightsee air tour of Kaui and Maui (with ground tours on each island). This was a special inagural tour for agents. The company won't start booking them for another month or so. Flying over Molokai was amazingly beautiful.
I went parasailing (on a windy day...scary) and jet skiing.
I think that covers it.
Observations about HI:
I noticed that on EVERY buffet (or Boofay) as it is pronounced here 😊 that there is macaroni salad. They love them some macaroni salad, fo sure.
I also noticed that every weekend, at any of the numerous beaches, there are some sort of big parties/family get togethers, etc. that ALWAYS include a blow up jumping contraption (moon jump, I think it may be called). ALWAYS and EVERYWHERE.
Virtually
everyone (including me, now) where slippers (slippahs) or flip flops.
You must remove footwear in the house (and run around with your dirty "slippah" feet).
