On this our last day here, Jan and Jackie took a ferry ride to Lanai, one of the two islands you can see from this side of Maui, the other being Molokai. They were booked on the ferry yesterday, but when they arrived at the dock the agent told them that the sea was very choppy and they couldn't guaranty that the boat would make the return trip later in the day. If that happened, they would have to spend the night on Lanai. They were told that the only hotel on the island was the Four Seasons and the cheapest room was $1,175/night. So they decided to put the trip off until Friday.
The seas and winds were much calmer Friday and I dropped them off at the docks for their excursion. I headed over to Cheeseburger in Paradise for breakfast and a couple Bloody Marys.
When they arrived at Lanai, they found there wasn't a whole lot to do there. They had hoped to have a nice lunch and do some shopping. Well the only restaurant open wasn't too appealing to them. So they had a bit of a picnic lunch bought at
the store there. Jan got a mega Rolling Rock and Jackie a Diet Coke, oh, and a bag of Maui Style chips. So that was lunch on the beach. They did report that the beach was big and beautiful. Jackie thought it was the best beach she had seen there.
After their sumptuous lunch, they visited a cultural museum and learned a lot about the Polynesians and their travels to Hawaii. I guess shopping was kind of a bust since they said there were only about 4 shops worth visiting there. They did enjoy the boat ride back on what did turn out to be another spectacular day here.
My plan was to catch a buzz from the Bloody's at Cheeseburger and get a massage for a lower back pain I've had for over a month. I tried to get into the spa at our resort, but they didn't have anything open so I strolled across the street to a nail place and got a massage from a Vietnamese girl. I know what some of you are thinking, but it wasn't that kind of place. The massage was mediocre at
best and when
I tried to get up from the table, I could barely do it. My back was waaaay worse. A real well spent $100 bucks! So I've been gimping worse now for the next day.
We decided to go to a very nice restaurant for our last dinner on Maui, so we booked a reservation at the Pineapple Grill in Kapalua. It was a gorgeous evening and the dinner was great, too. A very lovely evening to finish our trip. We're really going to miss the beauty of Maui and especially the fantastic weather. Check out the picture of the 5 day forecast below. It's almost always the same all year round.
