Well today was our last full day in Kaua'i and I was squashing in as much as we could manage. First up - today is Fathers's Day in the States and Canada so Happy Father's Day to the few dads I do know who live in those places. OK - so today is also King Kamehameha Day and there was a parade being held in Lihue for him, so I wanted to do something 'local' rather thn touristy so off we set early this morning. We actually got away earlier than we needed to and so we headed back to Kukui Grove Shopping Centre (where Maddy & I got our great Macy's bargains) to buy a pair of toe nail clipper for Jordan who was at the point of possibly being not allowed to get on ... read more

Okay so Day 2 didn't quite start out the way the way I planed. When I managed to pry my eyes open it was 11am !! Whoops !! Guess we were still adjusting to the time zone change. But after a slow start, we packed up and jumped in the car and headed off to Lydgate Park. Its a really family oriententated park. There's a maze - tho we couldn't find it - a huge castle, a playground, sports ground, picnic & BBQ areas and 2 rock walled pools. The smaller one is for toddlers ... but we decided to try out the other one. The sun was warm (about 30 deg) and the water was just awesome. As we were swimming around, we did spare a thought for all of you back home, but all ... read more

Well the day has finally arrived! The kids and I were up super early (my idea so we would sleep on the plane), then a quick trip to the office to print out the rest of the travel docs cos the printer at home ran out of ink (on a public holiday no less) and then had to make a quick stop at the school to drop off some paperwork that just couldnt wait till we got back. THe kids (read Jordan) were pleased to see their friends for just a few last minutes. The taxi turned up 10 mins early which thru us all in a bit of a spin. Thankfully we were all ready to go - well the cats missed out on a top up - but there was a awful moment in ... read more

Geo: 21.9733, -159.354Today we arrived in Nawiliwili Harbor on the island of Kauai. I watched the ship dock before we met the girls for breakfast at Beach Blanket Buffet before meeting in Studio Sea for our shore excursion at 7:30.After leaving the ship we loaded in vans and traveled to the Kauai Backcountry Adventures store where we were issued gloves and helmets with lights for our ride through the ditches. Then back on the van for a 30 minute drive to the entry point into the ditches. Our excursion today was a tube ride down irrigation canals that cut through the island. Our 3.5 mile ride took about 2 hours in the water and over half of it was underground as we floated through caves. It was a great experience. We saw the untouched wilderness of ... read more

Hey Everyone- Few weeks late as usual, but here are all the spectacular pics from Kim and Erin's visit to the island. We had so much fun. I realize some our dupes from Facebook, but guess you'll just have to deal with it... hehe Also, I think it should be noted what was going on behind the scenes of all these pictures. While Kim was planning her and Erin's exciting daily adventures in Hawaii.... someone back at home was planning some extremely exciting future plans. A week after Kim got back from Hawaii... Jamie proposed :) Congrats again girlie! So happy for you! OK well that's all for now. Hope everyone is doing great. Talk soon. Love, Allison... read more

We didn't have to rush as we prepared to leave. Our school bus had to do its morning rounds before it could take us out to the National Tropical Botanical Garden. But we were all gathered a half hour early, for some reason. Getting efficient at this packing stuff, I guess. We sure didn't want to leave the quiet garden-like hotel. But the yellow bus appeared and we loaded our gear, climbed in, and set off. We were not under the time pressures we had been most of the time on Kaua'i. We handled that just fine but it was nice not to hurry. On one of these trips, our driver did an extraordinary job in a situation that looked like a sure accident through no fault of her own. But she did it so well, ... read more

Waimea Canyon is the "Spectacular Beauty" we are to see today. And it is something we are anticipating. But Susan surprises us with a stop in one of the many valleys of Kaua'i. Like on the other older islands, deep valleys reach from inland extinct volcanoes down to the ocean. Through them run rivers of fresh water, rain that gathers in the rain forest areas near the peaks. In this particular valley is a huge fresh fish pond, carefully crafted with lava rock to provide a large reservoir to grow fish for the builders. From the way the river runs, the builders appear to have taken advantage of a big "ox bow" of the river that had switched back on itself. From Susan's telling, this fish pond may have been built by the Marquessans, the earliest ... read more

We travel today from Maui to Honolulu (2hr lay-over) to Kaua'i. So we start with shuttles to the airport. Our group is too big to fit in one shuttle trip so we make 2 trips. Luckily the airport is not far away. Our flights from Maui to Honolulu and Honolulu to Kaua'i are uneventful and we pick up our baggage and go outside to wait for our bus. Now, Susan has already told us that because of the unavailablty of motorcoaches on Kaua'i, and the fact that some areas where we need to go are too small for coaches, we will be using a school bus - Yes, a yellow school bus. When we see the yellow school bus turn the corner, we all cheer and make many jokes about going back to school and being ... read more
