Well today I finally leave town. I know everyone has anxiously been waiting for me to finally leave like I said I was! For what little interest it is here is a pseudo iternary for the next couple of months I spend one night in Hong Kong on my way to Manila, Philippines. I'll be there for 2 weeks or so and then I'm going to Perth, Australia. About mid March I'll be headed to New Zealand. That pretty sums up the next 4 months plans. I'm hoping to have more interesting things to tell everyone about at a later time, but I don't yet. farrell ... read more

We stayed at Stone Mountain Park just outside Atlanta. We used the MARTA and walked to Jimmy Carter Center, Martin Luther King Center and the new Aquarium which is the largest in the world. The second full day at Stone Mountain was to be a day of biking, but it became a trip to the ER. Kel took a “header” off the bike. Very badly bruised but no broken bones! The police that monitor Stone Mountain were super! Bob and Maureen took the cable car up to view the images carved into Stone Mt. We thought we would hike the trail but….after the bike incident, the patient’s ribs and chest said NO!... read more

Happy New Year! Welcome to my blog...my first one. Exciting! Just wanted to keep you all up to date about my adventures in the next few weeks...let me know how you are doing as well, please :) Well, here I am getting ready to go on another journey out of the good ol' US of A. This time I'm heading south, way south...to Chile, one heck of a long country. Although I've never been, I hear that where I am going is quite beautiful...right on the beach in Valparaiso. I've been reading up on the Spanish used there... maybe somehow I will be able to magically skip the difficult language acclimation period...hmm, yeah right. Well, hopefully I'll get into the Chilean swing of things quickly. And I read a book by Isabel Allende called My Invented ... read more

Well, folks, we're off to Israel. We finished packing just in time for Lonnie to get us to the airport by 1:30 pm for our 4:35 flight. We were greeted by the Rabbis and given our special Israel trip benchers (prayer and song book for after eating). Then we got on the train got to the Crown Room and here we are...waiting and using the T-Mobile Access point. Samantha is wearing her "Dash m'Yisrael" shirt and Daniel is wearing his "I Love Israel This Much" shirt. Both of them have their names in Hebrew on the back. We'll be having our first night Hannukah celebration on the plane. Samantha says "wow, great, can't wait." Dan says...well, not much. He's mesmerized by the TV. We first fly to Frankfurt arriving in the morning and then have an ... read more

Finally, after 6+ months of planning and organizing, we’re about to embark our backpacking journey to South America. The fun part of trip planning is over, replaced by the fact that it is time to do it all, as said and planned. Tomorrow, my roommate Ryan and I will be going abroad again. Waiting for my Argentina visa was nerve wrecking, but after three months of anticipation, finally my Argentine visa is approved at the last minute. So the good news is that I am in possession of three visas (Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil), and an approved one to be picked up at the Embassy of Uruguay once we arrive in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Now for sure, we are switching back to plan A: Argentina/Uruguay instead of plan B: Chile/Paraguay. Familiar tingling feelings of joy, excitement, ... read more

I had this moment last night after finishing my last exam in Athens and driving to meet a friend for coffee..."I'm going to miss this place." Then I saw two scantily clad (in 35 degree, rainy weather) loud girls crossing the street to enter a bar. Five minutes later, I nearly ran over a homeless man who decided it would be a good idea to dart out in front of my car to cross the street despite the fact that it was dark and I had a green light. Yeah, let's just say that moment passed. It has only been four months that I've been back in the US but it's time to go again.... read more

A friend dropped the word “remunerative” into an email today, and after looking up its definition in the dictionary, I thought that it’d make an appearance in today’s, sniff sniff, final blog entry. Webster’s defines remunerative as “Yielding suitable recompense; profitable.”, and I think it makes a good adjective to describe our trip. Of course, Sherry and I spent a good amount of money on the trip, but the journey was profitable to us in many other ways. We had so many experiences, memories, it’d be just as hard to summarize the trip here, as it was for us to document via this blog as we went along. For example, after showing off a fuller set of photos to some of her relatives here, Sherry heard comments like, “we didn’t hear about that on the blog”, ... read more

My sportsmanship was put to the test today by attending another famous Atlantan game. This time, I had an opportunity to see the Atlanta Thrashers ice hockey game, which is playing the Carolinas Hurricanes. I was embracing myself to stepping into the Phillips Arena threshold, after riding the unconvinient MARTA from Lindbergh Center where Jon parked his car. I have to admit, although I lived in Iowa for several years and hung out with lots of Minnesotan and some Canadians, ice hockey was the least sport I was interested in. Looking back, I wish I had more enthusiastic attitute towards the game, so I wouldn't be so lost in the ocean of Thrashers fans today. Upon our entrance to the arena, we were given a pair of hockey slaps and a "Welcome to the Blueland" Atlanta ... read more

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! After work, four of us were heading down to the Alexander Memorial Coliseum to watch Georgia Tech basketball. GA Tech was playing the University of Illinois - Chicago. Even though I wasn't familiar with either team, but I could feel the GA Tech college spirit in the air. The cheers, mascot, band, and college students - all resembled the same athmosphere I could relate myself with the Iowa State Cyclones back in Ames, Iowa, not a long time ago. I remember my old days of trying out the Iowa State Cyclones mascot, attending college basketball games at the Hilton Coliseum, and cheering for our team. All is too familiar for me. (even though GA Tech lost to the underdog Fighting Illi). College sports are a strange thing. I guess this is one thing ... read more
