After a year and half of "sheltering in place" due to Covid, it was time to do some traveling. Although Covid still required us to cancel our trip to Germany, Czech and Hungary, Helen Georgia gave us some of that Germanic culture.
After a 7 hour drive, we stayed at the Stoval B&B, a pre civil war building on 27 acres managed by two very nice people, Jeff and Erin.
There are some beautiful hikes to waterfalls of which we did two, Anna Ruby and Dukes Creek. Anna Ruby was a little easier but Dukes Creek was more spectacular.
Our anniversay dinner was at Caledonia in the Vahalla resort. Wonderfully presented and fantastic service.
We spent a few hours in the town of Helen but found it far too touristy for our taste.
Also, did some wine tasting at one of the many flegling wineries in the area Cottage Winery. Beautiful spot on top of the hill. The Viogner and Chardonay completely missed the mark but the cabernet franc and Syrah were not bad. However, for the price point, it was not good value.
The old courthouse in Cleveland was a real treat as one of
the volunteers showed us around. She had a story for all the displays that were there and maintained by the historical society.
The last day incuded a run over toTallulah gorge. Thought about hiking down the 1000 ft to the bottom, but that thought did not last long!! Dinner was at a farm to table restarant in Clarksville at Harvest Habersham. Some consider it better than any restaurant in Atlanta. Haven't had dinner in Atlanta, but is was pretty good. Hierloom tomatoe salad with goat cheese and redfish on a bed of succotash was delicious.

Thanks for Thinkinf of us:)
Actually it sounds like you had a really nice trip, despite Covid interfering with Europe. The South gets a bad rap but there are a lot of beautiful places and history and most of us don't take advantage of it. Your description of the scenery and meals makes me almost want to leave Home Depot and go somewhere. I've always thought those of us on the West Coast have a very shallow knowledge and connection with our country. Good for you guys! Did you drive the R9 or the turbo golf cart? :) Thanks again for the update-R
