Woke up at 6:30, showered and packed my bag. We loaded the kids in the van by 7:00 and my wife had me to the airport by 7:15 for my 8:00am flight. Luckily this is KCI so boarding was a matter of walking through an empty security line and into the boarding area. The two guys checking ids at the head of the security line were joking about seeing the mayor or something. Upon asking, they told me that Chiefs rookie and ProBowler Tyreek Hill had just gone through. Scanning the crowds, I couldn't find him among the sea of white faces. Just as I was about to step forward to board with the other first class passengers, he appeared next to me and I waved him to go before me and followed him down the jetway and snagged a pic of his ProBowl'17 backpack. He sat across the aisle from me.
My immediate seatmate was the Director of International Scholarship for the Crown Prince of Bahrain. Being one of my destinations, we chatted a bit about her life there.
Landing Atlanta, I walked to the International concourse to find that Virgin Atlantic was (not surprisingly) not present for check-in yet.
I walked outside and tried unsuccessfully to hail an Uber, although I think maybe they are not allowed to pick up there (or didn't want to). I gave up after a few tries and took a cab downtown.
I took a tour of The Center for Civil and Human Rights and then walked over to a bar to meet my friend Brian from high school. After some food and a good chat about family life he drove me to the airport to catch my flight. I spent a little bit of time in Delta's Sky Club (including outside deck) before boarding VS104 toward London. The seat arrangements keep everyone "isolated", as in nobody is sitting immediately adjacent to you. The food was so-so and I slept the rest of the way.
