Thursday , We got up a bit late after the awesome laser show. Drove to a train station ( Marta) not far from here. Caught that into the middle of Atlanta. We always seem to attract real winners. This time his name was Dexter, a black guy. Who told us what stop to get off , then yaked all the way into town , telling us about his life history. He is doing time in jail , 2 days a week for 6 months. His "Woman" has got 1 of his children , his "Girl" has got 3 of his kids !! Got in with the wrong crowd selling drugs , I think. Anyway, he walked us thru the CNN building and over to the Coca Cola building as he had nothing better to do today. ... read more

Today was the first day I didn’t spend any considerable time behind the wheel. I utilized Atlanta’s MARTA, the public transportation system, to head downtown. New York could take a few notes from the system here. The big one - how hard would it be to install timers on when the next train will arrive? That was a nice convenience here. Anyway, the Centennial Park area of downtown is the most touristy section. It’s where CNN, World of Coke and the Aquarium are all found, obviously along with the park named so because of the 1996 Olympics. My first stop was CNN. I took a tour of the CNN headquarters and saw behind the scenes into its production, along with its sister networks HLN, CNN International and CNN Español. The big news of the day was ... read more

Today was largely spent on the road. I left Charlotte this morning to head to Atlanta. On the way, I passed through Clemson so I had to stop and look around. Given that it’s summertime I expected the campus to be dead, although UNC and Duke got my hopes up. Well, dead doesn’t begin to describe it. Other than a few university buildings I wouldn’t have even known it was a college town. The real shocker came when trying to find a place for lunch. I had heard of such a thing but had never experienced it myself. Clemson is DRY on Sundays. And all the places I knew to go eat are considered bars, not restaurants. That severely limits the dining alternatives. I did eventually find an Italian joint which served its purpose. It was ... read more

Its 14:00 on Friday afternoon and I'm in the middle of Alabama on the train from Atlanta down to New Orleans. I Arrived in Atlanta on Wednesday morning at 8am. Trying to get some sleep on the train was harder than I thought. The Amtrak seats where comfortable enough, but I still found it difficult to stay asleep for more than about half an hour. I took a bus and then the underground to the hostel which was quite a strange place. The building was a big old house that had been converted. Antique bits and pieces where hung up on the walls all over the place, with messages telling you not to touch the attached. I noticed that there were not any locks on the room doors so that anybody could walk in and out ... read more

Greetings from Atlanta The home of the Braves, Martin Luther King, CNN, the 1996 olympics and most important the world of Coca Cola. So my last few days have not really been that interesting I had a journey from Richmond to hear which took 19 hours in total but with a 5 hour wait in Greensboro North Carolina which is a weird place. I walked around got some food and got propositioned. Now dont get excited it was a proposition for the lord to save me. I declined. On the train to atlanta i sat next to a woman who was fast asleep but kept wanting to try to sit on me as well. My tattoo was sore and starting to itch. The guy behind me was either talking really loud, or breathing funny like his ... read more

Michael and I drove to Atlanta and back on January 10, 2006. We went straight to the SunTrust Plaza. SunTrust Bank started in Atlanta and has its corporate office there. We went to the top floor of the building. There seemed to be SunTrust branches on every corner as we drove around town. SunTrust is the 9th largest bank in the country, in 8 southern states and Washington, D.C. It has 1100 branches with assets of $88 billion and deposits of $55 billion. Michael and I talked about his job. He is thinking of working full time as a Financial Services Representative while SunTrust pays toward his MBA. With his Master's, he can become an Investment Consultant. I wanted this trip to be oriented toward Michael's career. We meant to get a hotel but started going ... read more

Kate here again... Yeah...so...hi everyone who's still stumbling upon our little neglected corner of cyberspace. :) If I'd been keeping up to date on Liza's hugely successful LizaWasHere blog, I might've realized that she's been linking to us here. Needless to say, we kinda lost our travel blog momentum over the 2nd half of our trip this past summer. By the time we realized that we'd fallen off the "updated regularly" wagon, we had soooooo many pictures and general fatigue from being on the road for so long, that everything just kinda fizzled. We also had a consistent yet annoying habit of forgetting to take pictures when we were with friends and family. So consider this the official closing of this particular blog for updates. It was a GREAT trip. A fabulous time was had, and ... read more
