Wetlands by Ximena Olds
Bird Photography by Ximena Olds So my first week back from Brazil and Steve bombs me with a superoversaturated dose of…BIRDS! He took me on a sunrise nature boat ride on a lake in the middle of no-where just how we like it. Finally I got to relax and just enjoy my surroundings…after an amazing slow sunrise that we watched from the boat in the middle of a wet cypress land we moved on slowly.. looking for these birds he wanted to show me…All the sudden…there they were all awake and everywhere….very active. The Osprey mating season has started. We saw them mating, doing mating displays, guarding territory to build nests, others where already nesting and probably sitting on eggs, hunting. It was amazing. I didn’t even care about my photos…birds are so hard to photograph anyway…you need patience, skill and expertise…none of which I have lol…We went into a little area in the shore like and and my favorite sighting of the day showed up: a mated pair of red awls.
We spent all morning in this magical place and after lunch we went to visit Steve’s favorite ducks with the crazy head but they were too far to photograph…it didn’t matter to me
Nesting
Bird Photography by Ximena Olds that we were far I was just happy to see them from the distance, we also saw a loner King fisher in the middle of a lagoon, also very far to photograph but I couldn’t resist to get a pol shot. I got to see 5 different species mating: Blue Herons, Ospreys, Hawks…and other two…We finished the day photographing birds hunting for fish and crawfish and I got “the” shot of the day before we left…It feels good to be home!
Oh btw…I will post a link to the shot of the day later…(suspense)….
