This is the sponge capital of the world. Settled by the Greeks with many great resturants
Happy New Year everyone! I know it is a little late but this is our first post since Dec, 2010.
We spent about a week in Tarpon Springs Florida. My parents picked us up for about a week and we went there and played cards, games and enjoyed their company. It was cold there with some nights in the 20’s. We went back to the boat and did some maintenance for about a week and then went back to see Mom and Dad again.

We left Tarpon Springs on Jan 26th and followed the Sun south. Our first stop was Clearwater Beach, then outside to Bradenton Beach for 4 nights. We like Bradenton Beach as they have free showers and a trolley. We sat out some bad weather there with bad storms coming through with a cold front. Some winds over 35MPH and tornados North and South of us.

We left Bradenton Beach and headed south, stopped at White beach and then on to Englewood anchorage for two nights. There we went over to Stump Pass state park and McDonalds for Breakfast. Then South and anchored East of Sanibel Island, Next day we moved on to Ft Myers

Had a great evening meal with Barry & Linda amoung others at their boat in Tarpon Springs
Beach where we picked up a Mooring Ball for two nights.

We left Ft Myers beach and went off shore to Little Shark River in the Everglades. About 80 miles and we did not arrive until about 5:30 in the afternoon. Beautiful area where you can see millions of stars. No TV stations and only two Spanish radio stations that we could receive. Oh, one note, it was not even close, many more no-see-ums and mosquitoes than stars.
We left Little Shark and headed across Florida bay to Marathon. This crossing never gets very deep with much of it being only 7’-8’ deep. It took us about 8 hours to arrive in Boot Key Harbor after passing under the 7-mile bridge. There must be over 300 boats in here and is a great cruising area with activities all the time. We arrived here Saturday Feb 5th and are anchored. We are third today on the list waiting for a mooring ball. They have showers; laundry, meeting areas and a cruising net each mooring on channel 68.
We came up last night because they brought in a big screen TV for the Super Bowl. They have many activities. I think

This dolphin followed us for over a mile. He kept scaring Carol when he would come up along side the boat and blow out the air
we will go to the Meet & Greet Wednesday evening and a movie on Thursday Night.

We will be here at least a month, many say this place grabs a hold of you and keeps you! If you want to check it out, go to WWW.cityofmarathonmarina.com there is a web cam of the harbor and you may see us going in and out in our dinghy. However, there are hundreds of dinghies here so look closely!

Great News, days are in the 70’-80’s and nights in the 60’s. Carol is in shorts and short sleeve top! The water in the Harbor is about 76 degrees and I plan to jump in this afternoon and check the bottom of the boat.

So Cheers to all and keep in touch!

Update
Hey guys, Well, we are still tied to the dock. I don't know if you heard, but Linda's mom passed away on 30 Nov, so we have been taking care of things and are about done with all that stuff. Secondly, Linda's knee has been giving her fits. 20+ years ago, she completely tore the ACL and had big time surgery on it. Now arthritis is setting in. She got a cortisone shot and that has helped. Her second one is on the 24th of Feb, so we hope to take off shortly thereafter!!!! REally enjoy your blog posts and pictures. Makes us ready to go!! Hope you continue to enjoy and keep us posted.
