blog 03-09-17 1000 Island boat tour I just can't get enough of the Everglades so I booked a tour for 10:30 am in Everglades City, about 35 min away. So it was up and out and walk early, that meant the mosquitoes would be out and biting. We walked fast and Watson seemed just as happy to go inside when we got back. He has been feeling a little punk the last few days and his food has been rice and hamburger, hoping to calm things down. I left at 9 am and was there at the dock by 9:40 ready for a ride on the water. I went to the Nat'l Park Office and got my Passbook stamped for the 3rd Everglades stamp. Since I was early they put me on the 10 am boat ... read more

03-09-17 Anhinga Our walk today was a long one around the campground and to the boat launch area swatting mosquito all the way despite deet. Thank goodness there was a nice breeze from the water so we could sit and enjoy the view without doing a dance. There was a couple putting a canoe in the water and another packing up their small motored boat to go off on a fishing trip. I took a picture of the couple getting into their boat because I thought it would be a disaster picture. They were a little grumpy with each other and the woman seemed a little disabled and I really thought they would both end up in the drink but thank heaven that didn't happen. All aboard, dog and all, and off they went bumping off ... read more

Blog 03-07-17 Marsh Trail We slept in this morning til about 8 am since I had no plans for the day. It has been warm during the day, about 82, so most of the active time is in the morning. We went for another nice walk around the park and I thought it would be a good day to do some chores around camp. That wasn't any fun so I packed up my camera and lenses and water and Watson and headed for the Marsh Trail that was about 5 miles up the road. It is actually east on 41 and the trail is part of the National Park system. There is a nice parking area and just down the trail about 1/2 a mile is a tower overlooking wetlands with grasses and mangrove. The tower ... read more

blog 03-04-17 Tram Ride It was brisk last night, when I woke there were 2 covers on me. It was 55 outside and 59 inside, a one dog night. The air was so clear and beautiful I had coffee outside and decided not to go to a flea/craft market just up the road but stay here and enjoy the park and give bot Watson and me a good walk. We went to the Nature Center where I signed up for a tram ride at 1:30 pm and took the south creek path to the picnic area, about 1 mile. I observed the flora and fauna along the way taking pictures of things of interest which will be explained with the pictures. There was an observation platform built by a boy scout for his eagle project, of ... read more

blog 03-03-17 Dog Beach Today it was going to be Watson's turn to have fun. After the usual morning routine we got in the car and headed for the beach, the dog beach. It was about 20 min away and we found it and the parking lot with no trouble. There was a double gated fenced in area for small dogs and another larger area for big dogs all under trees and beautifully laid out. I discovered that you had to go through the big dog section to get to the beach so off we went. A short walk later, there it was. This area had some wave action with white sand beaches and lots of dogs, mostly big ones chasing balls in the water. Owners had brought their chairs or just sat on the sand ... read more

03-01-17 and 03-02-17 The Beach Wednesday after our walk and breakfast I decided to go to the grocery store but a little exploring was in order first. I found Publix, my favorite grocery, and continued on to the inter coastal and the public beaches. Lucky me, there was a parking place right up front and I walked to the beach to look around. It was gorgeous. The water so blue, the sand white and all the colorful umbrellas made quite a picture. The breeze was from the water so it was very pleasant about 82. I drove down the road a little and found the 2nd public beach with several parking places available. There is quite a walk to get to the beach from the lot so the other was more popular. The 3rd lot was ... read more

Repair and Myaka River I left Fun and Sun on Sunday night and drove to Lakeland to be close to the dealer for my 8:30 appt on Monday. I brought the car so I could explore the area and get some things accomplished at the same time. I had breakfast at McDonalds outside with Watson and the weather was delightful so we sat there and watched the world go by. We went to PetSmart for a new harness but Watson ended up getting a pedicure. The hair on the bottom of his feet was getting out of control and so were his nails, so he was in and out in no time. By the time we got back the camper was done and we were off to Myaka River State Park, I made a reservation there ... read more

After the freezing cold weather in Monterrey we couldn't wait to get to the heat of Florida and we were not disappointed. Just two planes would get us there this time - but coupled with a hangover and minimal sleep from the wedding the journey was long. We made our way at midnight to Bre, Simon and Maddie's pad who live in Venice on the east coast of Florida and tiptoed into a nice cosy room to wake up to the Florida sunshine - the hunt for the shorts was the first job before breakfast! Bre and Simon live on one of the many gated developments in Florida which affords super lovely accommodation overlooking a lake festooned with wildlife and a shared pool that would not look out of place in a 5 star hotel. We ... read more

The weather was really chilly last night but the sun was bright in the morning and promised to warm the day quickly. After our early routine we had oatmeal pancakes for breakfast and by 11am we were off to the beach. We ended up going to Venice Beach, a little farther south, but we were told it was the best place for shells, and we needed to collect shells. We drove most of the way on back two lane roads and saw so many strawberry farms and cattle ranches and orange groves. The land is flat and the road was straight so we motored along over 60 mph. We found public parking very close to the beach and picked our spot on the beach behind a dune as it was windy and a little chilly. The ... read more
