Today started off a little later, bags to coach was 8am but we got up a lil bit earlier to get our included breakfast... finally, some toast! Vegimite toast was throughly enjoyed by myself and marnee along with a big glass of OJ.
We drove for only about 45minutes before we arrived at The Kennedy Space Center.
It didnt open til 9am so we were first in the line. We got some pics with the big NASA sign before heading in to check out the rocket park which consisted of alot of different rockets and capsules etc that had been used previously.
We then made our way on the bus to the first of 3 stops.
Stop 1: Launch Complex 39 Observation Gantry
We watched a 6minute briefing film about rocket launchings then made our way into the interactive exhibit are where you could see exactly how the launchings go about.
Then we went to the top of the Gantry for a 360° view of the Launch Pads, the Crawlerway and the vehicle assembly area.
Stop 2: The Apollo / Saturn V Center.
It featured a 363 foot moon rocket! There was also the Firing Room Theatre which recreates
an Apollo launch (in the actual control room that was used to launch Apollo 8) and the Lunar theatre which depicts the first moon landing. We also got to touch an actual moon rock.
Stop 3:International Space Station
We got a closer look at Space Station Components as they are prepared there in front of you for flight. We learnt that the International Space Station circles the earth every 92 minutes and that when it is completed it will weigh 1 million pounds.
We got to see what life would be like in space in where they sleep, how they shower and how they excercist etc.
After this we headed back to the main building, had a more of a walk around then it was time to head back to the bus.
I was abit annoyed and saddened that Australia doesnt get off our ass and get involved in all this space stuff...
After this we headed to the town of St Augustine: The nations oldest city.
We got there and had a little free time so went for a walk around the pretty little town. It was sooooo hot tho, and very muggy.
We headed
back to the hotel where we got cleaned up for dinner at a place across the road from out hotel called Hungry Howie's. It was a buffet place so everyone stuffed themselves silly before we headed off on our walking ghost tour.
We walked all around the town at night with a guide telling us all this crap about how the town is full of ghosts, we didnt see any and when we asked him how many he'd seen he said none lol. Good Work dude, way to convince us!
We headed back to the hotel then to the little pub called 'Mardi Gras', didnt last long there before heading back to the hotel. Somehow still didnt make it to bed before 1:30am though.
