Back home. Ahhhh. Sleeping in my own bed, sitting in my own chair. Home cooking (by Steve). Warm temperatures and sunshine every day. Feels so good. It is fun to travel, but the best part, after all of the exploring and new experiences, is coming home. We spent the last 12 days visiting with family and friends. Thank-you, Betsy, for the use of your wonderful camp on Pear Pond. So here are a few statistics… We visited 29 states, two Canadian provinces, six American National Parks, two National Monuments, and three Canadian National Parks. We stayed in hotels 25 nights and 12 nights with friends and family or places that they own. We were on the road 37 days and ate food from many, many restaurants. We consumed 387 gallons of gas, covered 11,789 miles, and ... read more

I have struggled this year to come up with a theme for this road trip. We have been just about everywhere and done just about everything we might have any interest in doing on a road trip…from the vineyards to the national parks, from the mountains to the valleys, from the rivers to the oceans. It is getting harder every year to come up with something new and unique. So, considering that wherever we go, it will likely be somewhere we have already been, we decided to call it “A Trip Down Memory Lane”. Perhaps my ever-aging eyes and my well-traveled mind will see things differently this time around and make it all new again. We shall see. This year we begin with the road trip west, unlike earlier trips when we began by spending a ... read more

Geo: 28.1758, -80.5903We left Atlanta this morning at 8 AM and 72 degrees and headed out for our last day on the road, this trip. You all know what that drive is like. I knew we were getting close to home when, at noon time, we saw our first palm trees and the temperature was 91 degrees. We landed in Satellite Beach at 3:30 PM and I must add, we had a VERY happy doggie. Beamer is glad to be home, as are we. And the first thing I did was bow my head and thank the Lord for getting us home safe and sound. Our plan was:to visit the five national parks in Utah and also Yellowstone in Wyoming. Check. We did that and a few more.... read more

Geo: 28.1758, -80.5903We left Apex, NC this morning at 6 AM and 77 degrees and headed south. This was the longest driving day yet. We arrived in Satellite Beach at 5:30 PM. We would have been here sooner but for a few hick-ups along the way...an over-crowded Subway Shop, which cost us 45 minutes, and an accident in Jacksonville (not ours), which had traffic tied up for about an hour. As a matter of fact, we saw a lot of accidents today. It appears people were driving too fast in the rain. Yes, I said rain. All day long my head was in Florida, anxious for some long-needed sunshine. But it was not to be. The weather brought us a lot of rain. Fortunately we were not one of the casualties. So, this odyssey is completed. ... read more

Geo: 28.1758, -80.5903It has been a year since our last cross-country road trip, and here we go again. Some may think us brave, some may think us foolish, and some may even think we are just plain crazy, but with Solivita once again in our rearview mirror, we are off for another adventure, to explore what is truly a magnificent country, our country, the USA. Our sites are on the wineries of Oregon and Washington State. And if all goes well, we may even hop up to Vancouver, BC and take in the sites of what many say is an incredible city. Since last year's trip was a success, I will reissue my sentiments on the first day of that trip and hope that all works out as well as it did then. So here it ... read more
