We started "breaking camp!" on Sunday afternoon since rain was predicted for Monday morning our scheduled "kick off." We buttoned the rig up with all our little "get out of town rituals" and were all set to go in the monring. So lucky that Sunday was a great pool day at Sun N Fun. Sarasota has provided several spontaneous "meet & greets" of people from home for us. Yesterday we bumped into the DiNallos - Linda and Jerry (Anthony) from Mechanicville at the wonderful Sarasota Art Fest downtown. At the same art show, we stopped in at clay sculptor Brenda (no relation) McMahon's booth. This artist lives in Ohio and St. Pete, Fl. Zita and I visited her studio in Greenwich, NY (across the Hudson from Schuylerville) during the Pottery Tour a few years ago. And, ... read more

This is our fifth return to Sun n Fun, an amazing RV Park in Sarasota. There is so much to do here - pool, hot tub, kiddie pool, giane slide, free mini golf and shuffle board, almost always a bocce tourney in progress, woodworking shop, lapidary shop, restaurant, poolside tiki bar and grill, entertainment most nights, fishing in the park's own lakes, etc. It skews a bit younger than many Florida RV Parks, especially now. We are here during the "President's Week" school break. Sarasota and Sun N Fun are especially appealing because of the nearby attractions. Previous blogs have described many of the venues and fun spots. We highly recommend the play "Searching for Eden, The Diaries of Adam & Eve," a romantic comedy, which we caught at the Asolo Rep Theatre in the Ringling ... read more

Today, while returning to our pool-side beach chairs from the snack bar with a big order of onion rings, Wes, all alone and vulnerable, was compromised by two "cougers." The babes' MO was brilliant - the more senior "cutie" broke the ice by saying - "Got one of those for me?" (meaning the onion rings I think). The somewhat startled; but ever gracious Wes nodded OK. Then the other woman (Junior "Cougar in training" perhaps a daughter of cougar senior) said "Me too?" and began her own nibble. At which point, the more senior cougar said "See, that's how it's done!" True story from Sun n Fun...but this entry is about Turtle Beach Camp Grounds on beautiful Siesta Key. Our site was just steps away from this beautiful Gulf of Mexico beach; somewhat wild and simply ... read more

3.5 days left in Sarasota 1 in Tampa. Before I leave I need to: feel better, pack, clean houses, print exit info, decide about turtle project, see friends, help mom with classes, get Courtney to fix my computer, anything else I've forgotten. I'm an exciting blogger aren't I? ... read more

Happy, Happy Holidays to all our family and friends! We were planning on having an at home Christmas this year, but have been called to Indiana. Ron's mom is not doing well and this is where we need to be. So, we are having a white, snowy Christmas instead of a white, sandy Christmas. Shortly after Christmas, if possible, we'll be flying to Tucson, Arizona to hike the desert, see friends, and cheer the U of A Wildcats on to victory. We have plans to see several games in Tucson and then follow them to LA for games at USC and UCLA. Since returning from our summer trip in August, we have done some small trips to Indiana, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, West Virginia, and North Carolina. When at home we continue to enjoy the ... read more

Back in Sarasota Alyson heads to dance performance practice whilst I decide to stop being a slob and go for some sporting. I feel like we have been in the water for most of the day so instead of going for a swim in the in ground pool at Alyson’s gym I decided to go for a run. I donned my running shoes and decided to get. After passing Sarasota airport - which is really like next door to the university and the gym - you can literally fly in and fly out here - I saw a bike standing there on it is lonesome. I thought lets take this baby for a spin around Sarasota - I’m not really that good at running anyways and don’t get that far. Unfortunately it was locked. I continued ... read more

sang in a high off pitch voice "Wanted, dead or alive" Dasha doing a rendition of Bon Jovi On June the 15, 2009 Alyson took me to the Ringling estate. The website advised you could spend up to a day there and I could see why. It was gorgeous. Originally the estate had belonged to John Ringling and his wife, the owners of the massive Ringling circus. On the estate were about 2 acres of beautiful grounds filled with big Banyan trees and a beautiful rose gardens as well as romantic sculptures scattered all over the place. Of the buildings that were on site we visited the Art museum, the Ringling mansion and the Ringling circus exhibition. To get into the museum cost me 7USD, as I was still a "student". Alyson got in for free ... read more

Today we picked up the anchor around 9 a.m. to start our journey to the Crow's Nest in Venice. About an hour into the trip, we all got e-mails telling us that the weather wouldn't hold out and there would be no baseball games today. We called the grandmas and made arrangments for the kids to meet us this afternoon in Venice. After a breezy sail, we tied up at the dock around 1:30 p.m. The kids arrived a little after 2 p.m. and we headed over to the little picnic island just inside the jetty in Venice. After floating around and enjoying the sunshine (finally, no rain!!!), we headed back for showers and a little happy hour. We're enjoying dinner at the Crow's Nest tonight and looking forward to another wonderful meal and we're also ... read more

This is as far north as we plan to get this season. We had a reunion with Wiarton Marina friends this afternoon at the marina. In a day or two we will begin heading back to Port Charlotte for our haul-out on March 28th. We had a great visit with Brian and Valarie in Venice - they have a CS 34 at Wiarton and also cruised these parts 9 years ago. A couple of recent highlights were finding fossilized sharks' teeth on the beach at Englewood and being lucky to see the launch of the space shuttle Atlantis from the other side of Florida! We are definitely in countdown mode now - after almost 5 months living aboard we have a long list of things to do before we put Gust O'Wind away for the summer. ... read more
