This amazing Sarasota County park is right on the Gulf of Mexico, the furthest rig is less than the length of a football away from the sandy beach of Siesta Key. Two restaurants and a marina where you can rent boats sit right across Midnight Pass from this campsite. Sunning, walking and reading on the beach, shelling, conch blowers at sunset, fab dinner on the upper deck at Turtles, and off to a sunset Jazz event at Ca d'zan at the Ringling Museum! Looking forward to the weekend. An Exotic Car Show on St. Armond Circle on Long Boat Key where we will have lunch at our favorite Cuban Restaurant "Columbia." Juried craft show downtown on Main St., and possibly dinner and the Art Stroll in Towles Court tonight. Looking for a bike path! ... read more

Well, after being here for a week and a half we finally got up enough motivation to get out on the golf course. What a beautiful day. Hopefully we will be doing this soon at home. Afterwards, another trip to Sweet Tomatoes (our 3rd thus far) and back in time to see another beautiful sunset. This is the life!... read more

We had a great visit from Corinne and Don today! It was great to see them again and we enjoyed catching up and having some good laughs together. Again, I neglected to get a single picture to document the visit but Murray did get a great shot of an Egret by the car when we stepped out to go to the Granery this afternoon. Another great relaxing day at the beach. Two wonderful walks on the beach, a great happy hour, banangrams, a rousing game of euchre (the girls finally one this one) and Kathy and Murray ate dinner on the balcony watching the sun set. What a life. I am soooooo relaxed that I actually fell asleep during banangrams :-) !... read more

Today we had a great visit from the Femminineos! It was great to see them again and to see the girls continuing to grow like weeds. Fiona and Margaret are still the wonderful, polite girls that are always such a pleasure to be around; Mark and Terri are doing a great job. The visit was too short and sadly I neglected to get a single picture. I would have loved to have one of the girls playing in the surf as they were having a blast together swimming out to the sandbar. Even the sea urchin spine in Margaret's foot did not spoil their fun. A great day was had by all and we look forward our next visit with them this summer.... read more

Today was our busiest day thus far. Even though we were up late we managed to get up for an early morning walk. Then we went to the Sarasota Farmers Market. What a fantastic place. The vegetable selections were amazing. We wished we were going to be here longer so we could buy more. There was also a table for Veggie Magic, a raw restaurant in Sarasota. We bought a couple of raw "baked" goods to sample. After that, Kathy got in the pool for the first time since we've been here. Then, lunch and off to the Venice Art Fair. Kathy was looking for a some more turtles to add to her collection from a gal that we had seen here before, but no luck.... read more

Another lazy day in paradise. Then we went to Tampa to watch the Tigers play the Yanks. I'm guessing you know the outcome based on the title. It was different being at the opposition's park with all the Yankee fans around. However, a good time was had by all. And the night ended with a fireworks display. ... read more

Today (Wednesday), the weather is improving. The gulf was really calm this morning and the sun was shining (Murray looks like a beet tonight)! We spent a lot of time out on the beach today walking, reading, and playing beach games. We also took our second trip to Sweet Tomatoes! Can you believe I haven't checked my work email yet?... read more

Monday and Tuesday were very cool days (lows in the 40s and highs in the 50s) but we took advantage of them by catching up on our sleep (man are we sleepy with all this fresh sea air), reading, grocery shopping and venturing out on the deserted beach for a couple of brisk walks to the point of rocks. Even though it's cold, the sunsets are just as spectacular as ever and we never get tired of watching the sun sink into the sea every evening. ... read more

February 22, Sunday We packed up camp and drove to Siesta Key for a para-sail. Deb agreed to ride on the boat, but didn't want to go airborne. The ride out took about 45 minutes, and the day was perfect, no chop on the water, very little breeze. A trio took the first flight, and just as they got out about 100 ft off the boat, Deb announced that she wanted to go with me. Yeah ! Our turn came, and aloft we went, with the crew letting out about 1100 ft of cable, which put us up almost 900 ft asl ( above sea level ). The ride was tremendous, the view was stupendous and I would do it again in a heart beat. Deb gradually relaxed her grip on the lines, and enjoyed the ... read more
