Spring Break - Day 1 When I was growing up our Spring Breaks consisted of going to visit my moms family in Panama City. My Meme (grandmother) lived a couple of houses from the bay. My aunt, uncle and cousins would come visit us at Meme’s. We spent many vacations at my Meme’s that we even got to know the neighbors and neighborhood kids. Meme always had a pound cake waiting for us and green kool-aid. I don’t remember much tv watching and surely there weren’t any computers. We’d play in the bay, climb trees in my Meme’s yard, wander around the neighborhood and jump on the neighbors trampoline. My mom would let us walk down to the bay to play in the water. She would not think allowing her grandchildren to do that this day ... read more

We're so excited about Dauphin Island in Alabama and getting to New Orleans with enough time to see the sights; that we're leaving Top Sail early. This park is so gracious and didn't penalize us for the cancelled part of the reservation. We didn't get to the Red Bar at Grayton Beach; we missed stopping in at Sally's Back Side, a fun and funky club behind a convenience store on 30 A. Catch them next year. But before leaving, we had a great day for NOT getting sunburned on Top Sail Beach and a wonderful dinner at Tango Cafe. ... read more

Heading out of St, George Island on our way to Top Sail RV Park, Santa Rosa Beach, scores of oystermen, their small boats brimming with oysters, come into view as we cross the bay. Heading west on Route 98, we skipped the sweet town of Apalachicola - been there and loved it and rolled on to Port St. Joe and a brief stop near the Marina. We had once stayed at a State Park on St. Joe Peninsula and loved its untamed beauty. We have often passed the intriguing looking Toucan’s at Mexico Beach but the timing is never right for a meal stop - too early for lunch and too late for breakfast. Some things have to be saved for next tiem! Passing through Panama City we are reminded that it’s a popular “spring break ... read more

Florida State Parks are wonderful. The price is right; and each has a unique quality - St. George Island is primitive and wild - Top Sail, near Santa Rosa Beach, was once a commercial RV Park and has ammenities - pool, hot tub, laundry, paved "pads" - normally not found at a State Park. There was a "host camper - volunteer" at St. George who went out of his way to be friendly and helpful without being intrusive. On St. George's, we LOVED Eddy Teachs for oysters, other seafood and even burgers. Moving on to Top Sail near Santa Rosa Beach, we met up with the Waymans for a few days. We ran into some bad weather and amused ourselves"working" on our laptops, scooping up a few bargains at a Goodwill Store, checking out Justin (and ... read more
