The one about my aching butt It was sooooo cold at Lakefront Arena RV area last night. The wind howled again and Moya rocked. I set my alarm for 6:00, but was awake at 5:00. But, it’s central time, and I would end my day in eastern time, so it was really 6:00, but it was dark, and I won’t drive in the dark. Got that? The temperature was 31 degrees. That’s cold to be sleeping in a metal box. I turned the furnace on, read for a bit, then got dressed, walked Winston and was on my way at first light, 6:15, but it was really 7:15. I set my clocks ahead to prepare for the change. My body actually never left eastern time even though I was away from it for almost 2 weeks. ... read more

Geo: 30.1172, -83.5816We left Savannah heading South along the Eastern Seaboard. Stopped by the dock to Sapelo Island which is a wildlife refuge. It seems that the part of the Georgia Coast which we have seen is comprised of low country with sea marshes, estuaries and islands. We have avoided the interstates today to see more of the countryside. As we continued South we came to St. Simon Island which is reached by two bridges and a causeway. Like Hilton Head this is a recreational and retirement type of area although there must be a number of permanent residents because of the schools. The island is not as heavily developed with gated communities. However, this island did have its own airstrip. We then headed into Florida across the northern portion towards the Gulf. It seems that ... read more

Northwest Coast We purchased an RV so that we could enjoy traveling at our leisure, no plan, no schedules. We didn’t purchase an RV so that we could fly at 80 mph down the interstate between the McDonalds and Cracker Barrels. Interstates should be avoided wherever possible. However, be that as it may, it is impractical to get from South of Venice Florida to North of Tampa without using Interstate 75, especially in an RV. If you choose to take Route 41, you must go through about 5000 traffic lights and dodge cars coming from every direction. If you take Route 17 through Arcadia, you will see beautiful old Florida; groves, pasture and lots of cattle, but it brings you too far east of the Panhandle. So, we begin our journey at about 12:30pm on ... read more
