The Buzzing Campground
It's another overcast, cool day here in "sunny" Florida. Poor Oscar, I had to steal his blanket last night, but he got even, he joined me under my covers. It was 55 this morning and I needed to have a shower so off to the bathouse I went. You have to understand there is NO heat in any restroom at the campgrounds so when the temperture outside is 55, the temperature inside is 55. There are ceiling fans, and open windows to keep mold from growing and dry things out, but in cold weather it's bracing. The only redeeming factor was the hot water. Not too bad as long as you were under running water, but then you dry yourself quickly and get those clothes on.
I finished setting up camp. Connected the water, and put out the awning and the tie downs to keep the rain off the rug, chairs and camper door. It wasn't raining yet but sure looks like any minute it will start.
After Oscar's walk I thought it was a good time to explore the park and Oscar got to go too. We looked
at a park pavilion with a body of water next to it, then we went searching for the camp store. That is located in a beautiful spot along the Halafax River with little islands scattered here and there to make it a perfect place for me to launch the kayak, when the weather improves. They sell breakfast and lunch at the store with a delightful patio to sit and enjoy your meal. They also have some camping supplies, DVDs for rent, books to loan and tonight they have live music and they sell beer and wine. So I'll have to check that out.
I went a little further on the sand road and came to the end of the penninsula and Chief Tomokie's statue. It is quite a site after looking at all the trees. Picture. I will have to do some research and report back later.
We went into the town of Ormond Beach and headed for the ocean. We found it easily but I was sure not inclined to get out and walk the beach. The wind was about 25 mph and it's just 62 degrees. We continued on and found a Publix grocery store, which I love, and since supplies were needed what better time to do some shopping, I didn't have to worry about Oscar roasting to death in the car.
It was then time to go back home and put the groceries away, Oscar needed his nap.
I didn't report on the buzz in the campground. As it turns out, the buzz is everywhere, sometimes it's a roar. It's bike week here in the Daytona area which means every person with a motorcycle from a 3000 mile radias who can get away is here. There must be 10,000 bikes in the area just driving around enjoying each other's company and riding in fairly warm temps. There are activities planned by the local cities and venders from all over hopeing to sell those must-haves like leather jackets with the Harley logo. There are 2 big events a year if you're a biker, Daytona in March and Sturges in the summer, and you just HAVE to make both.
Who knows what happens to the time but before I knew it, it was after 6 pm and I had to get to the camp store to hear the live music. I couldn't believe too many people would be there because the singers played youkallalies and sang sing along songs. Not really biker music. I was surprised to see several cars and a nice little crowd there. I got a beer and sat with a fellow turned out to be from the Wilkes-Barre area, small world. They sang 'Green allegators and long neck geese", the unicorn song, "You are my Sunshine", you get the idea. It was hokie but a lot of fun and when the party broke up it was time to head back and hit the sack.
