After no sleep we got off the plane in Orlando hoping that our luggage was there and as it came out on the trolley there was the sweetest feeling of relief and excitement that they had actually made it. Thanks again Billy! We collected the bags, made time for a very excited ‘selfie’ and found the taxi rank to get to our hotel, by this time it was just before 7:00am.
The drive to our hotel wasn’t too far and when we got to the Clarion Inn – Lake Buena Vista, even though it was super early the lovely lady at the counter still checked us in, amazing!
I think grandpa may have been looking over us from above with all the luck we’d had in the last 8 or so hours! We dumped our bags in the room (which was nice to have our own space and bathroom again after the hostel), showered and made our way down to the hotel restaurant for a fantastic buffet breakfast for only $9.95, it hit the spot nicely seeing as we hadn’t had dinner the night before due to our airport fiascos.
After breakfast we waited out the front for the front for
our hotel shuttle to Universal Studios, it came late so we didn’t get to the park until just after 11:00am. It was very busy at the park and very hot and humid. Once inside the park our first stop was a rollercoaster called the ‘Hollywood Rip Rock It’ but while lining up in the 45mins queue it stopped being run for some reason. It was at this point that we decided to go and buy our ‘express pass’ to skip a lot of the queues. So first we went on the Minions 4D ride, then Shrek 4D, Transformers 4D then through to Simpsons World. Then we did the Men in Black ride, the Terminator II show then a few others like the Twister experience before getting some lunch at Mel’s Diner. Then it was on to the little bit of Harry Potter World that came inside Universal before catching the train from ‘Kings Cross Station’, Platform 9 ¾ over to the Islands of Adventures (the new Happy Potter World).
This was so impressive; not only did everything look exactly like the movies but they had a giant replica of the Hogwart’s Castle. We went on a couple of rollercoasters here
before finally hitting the main one inside Hogwarts. This one was amazing. It actually took you on a ride through, following Harry (on his broomstick) on an adventure over water which would splash up at you and the seats were moving, amazing technology. From here we went and found ‘Butter Beer’ to try. This is a drink that they have in the movie., no alcohol and it tasted great; hard to explain but kind of like a frozen creamy soda with a soft froth stuff on top, delish and refreshing.
Then we left there in search of Jurassic Park. This was good and much like the one in Singapore Universal Studios. One of the rides you got in a boat and go around ‘Jurassic Park’. You see different Dinosaurs and at the end you get drenched. Good fun.
By this time it was dark and we’d had enough so we jumped on one more ride, The Hulk Rollercoaster. This ride was so ridiculously fast but amazing. It was already around 9:30pm by this time and well and truly time to go back to the hotel. We got back and got some pizza from the hotel bar for dinner before hitting
the hay around 11:00pm.
