Well, what can you say? 3 days at Disney was enough for us but nephew Daniel (5) and niece Hannah (8) had a magical week there and I'm sure it wasn't long enough. What we want to know is how do they manage to keep up the pace for so long? We were utterly exhausted from walking around the parks and riding the occasional roller-coaster!!
We've only put a few photos here on the blog but there are many many more on
Russ' Facebook album, and you don't need a Facebook account to view them so you might as well have a look!!!!
We stayed at the Disney Pop Century Resort where we were all located in rooms in the 70s block. That meant a huge Mickey Mouse (analogue) telephone outside and the biggest table football set you will ever see! Maybe the 80s block would have been more apt with its enormous Rubik Cubes for decoration!! The resort had many photo opportunities with larger then life models of various Disney characters but Mr & Mrs Potato Head were the winners for us!!!!!
Our first night saw us dining out at Downtown Disney. There we had a table for 8
at the lively Planet Hollywood restaurant. Paul was given the first of many 40th birthday cakes during the week, and the level of service and size of the portions set the tone for the week and a half ahead of us. Good job we're not counting the calories or worrying too much about our waistlines just yet!
The next day we set off for an adventure in Disney's Animal Kingdom. There we were soon on safari seeing giraffes, hippos, antelope and crocodiles in their semi-wild settings. We also rode the terrifying (!)
Expedition Everest, flew on some magic dinosaurs and watched the wonderful shows based on
Finding Nemo and
The Lion King. It was very tiring!!!
Rachael and Paul took the kids back to the hotel while Rick and Sarah made sure we got to Magic Kingdom safely. We took the paddle steamer across the river and walked down Main Street before having a bite to eat. Rick and Sarah then left us to our own devices and we fought alongside Buzz Lightyear and were terrorised by a cartoon character called Stitch! Then we watched the magical Spectral Light Parade where lots of illuminated floats passed by with
Disney heroes old and new waved at the thousands of onlookers. We waited around for the fireworks spectacular but the heavens opened with about 20 minutes to go. Suddenly the park wasn't so packed and we got a good view of the display. It was a truly magical, if damp, end to the day.
Magic Kingdom was the venue the next morning for our "character breakfast" where we feasted on a wonderful buffet and were greeted by Winnie The Pooh, Tigger, Eeyore and Piglet! It was great for photos, but when certain people are in the restrooms just as their particular favourites arrive, someone else has to run after them to haul them back in time!!!
From there we took the monorail to the Epcot Centre. The

Tomorrow exceeded expectations. Whilst it wasn't full of thrill rides, it was all very interesting and educational for adults and kids alike. The Nemo ride was cleverly done and the audience with Crush, the turtle, was "awesome dude"!! We also saw a lot about conservation on Earth and our experience finished with an airborne ride over the California countryside. Later on we went with Rick and Sarah
to the World Showcase area where we watched a Beatles tribute band singing songs from the 60s in the British area before moving on to the German area for a nice beer! Once again the fireworks were a little damp but it was a great evening.
The next morning we rushed around taking photos in the hotel complex before we all headed off to International Drive in Orlando for a week of fun and games!!!!
