Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas everybody!!
Even though Disney is all about the holiday season, I'm still not feeling particularly Christmassy - although right now I'm sat in my living room surrounded by Christmas lights and watching the Wizard of Oz, which isn't
entirely unfestive!! But Christmas Day is on Tuesday and I still keep referring to it as 'Tuesday', not Christmas Day. I think it's because I'm still wandering around in a vest top and jeans rather than freezing my butt off in Yorkshire!!
The last few weeks at work have been quiet, because of the pre-Christmas lull, but to be honest I haven't been at work very much because my friend Andy came to stay for a week - so I got other people to work my shifts in my place 😊 Me and Andy had a great, albeit exhausting, time being proper tourists. We visited an impressive 8 theme parks in a mere 5 days - then I slept for 16 hours at the end!! We did pretty much everything - watched Wishes at Magic Kingdom (twice), rode Everest at Animal Kingdom, scared ourselves silly on the thrill rides at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure,
got
soaked at Sea World, 'dropped in' to the Tower of Terror at MGM Studios, and got in the spirit watching the Candlelight Processional at EPCOT. It was an awesome week and it was so much fun being able to show someone from home what it's like living in the entertainment capital of the world (answer: expensive, but a LOT cheaper if you're a Disney Cast Member!).
The other big news from that week is that I passed my DMV driving test, which means I now have a Florida drivers license!! This is good news as it means I can be scheduled to be the Resort Driver at work, and I can now go ahead and buy my friend's old Chevy Cavalier. Ten days having a rental car to drive around in made it very difficult to go back to spending two hours a day on the bus! So i hope to have the car sorted in time for Lauren and Kat's visit on December 10th.
At work I'm starting to get a little sad, as pretty much everyone I work with will be leaving on either January 5th or January 11th, including half the managers 😞 We
have a really good team at the Grand so it'll really suck to see all my friends leave. But on the upside, I asked to be a trainer at work and was accepted, so from Christmas Day I will be training new Cast Members to work on the Front Desk. It's not really a promotion as such, but it does give me a teeny bit more seniority at work AND I get paid a little bit more, so it's all very exciting. I've applied to be trained for a different job within the same department as well, so there's lots of stuff going on that will keep me busy even when everyone leaves.
Unfortunately Andy's parting gift when he left was his cold!! So I've been coughing well and pretty much housebound for the last few days. I did go to a friend's leaving party on Thursday night with a whole load of people from the Grand, which was a lot of fun but made me feel a whole lot worse - but then on Friday, going to work seemed to make me feel a lot better!! I picked up some extra hours handing out wristbands for Mickey's Very
Merry Christmas Party at the Magic Kingdom. I spent 4 hours dressed up as a candy cane in a skirt (sadly no photos!!) handing out wristbands and talking to a lot of very excited guests, it was great fun.
I have the next few days off, including Christmas Eve, so I'm planning on baking some Yorkshire Puddings for work for the Christmas dinner and then go to see Gary Sinise recite the Christmas Story at the EPCOT Candlelight Processional. Then on Christmas Day I get my first trainee - a baptism of fire if ever there was one!!
I'll sign off here, but if I don't speak to everyone, have a wonderful Christmas and don't eat too much!! I will miss you all dearly...xxx
