Yay for USA
Me & my Mickey Mouse ears from Disney world After a fantastic time in NYC I joined another Contiki group which was fantastic. Basically there were two options for this tour one was from NYC to New Orleans which is what I did and the longer option was NYC to LA which the majority of the group was doing. It was a fantastic group and we had a great time together so that was really lucky. Once again I have way to much to tell and don't want to drive anyone crazy reading it so I will give a bit of a summary and whole lot of pictures which are way more interesting anyways ...
Day One: NYC to Philadelphia to see all the monuments and stuff, this is where the constitution was written and civil war stuff etc etc. Was pretty cool to see and also the Rocky steps (i can't actually recall ever seeing the movie so dad has threatened to make me watch all 4 or 5 or however many there are when i get home). Oh the cool thing about philly was the philly cheese steak sandwich i had for lunch. Very yummy. Ok from Philly it was through to Maryland for a quick look
Rocky Steps
Philadelphia and these are the steps in front of the museum that Rocky runs up in the movie. I can't recall actually seeing the movie but here are the steps anyways *grin* around and then to Washington DC. We did a night tour of the city which was brilliant and saw a whole bunch of the memorials and monuments and stuff. Really really long day but got to meet quite a few people. There are 31 on our tour and Bob is the driver and Dave is our tour leader and they were a great bunch of people to travel with.
Day Two and Three: Free days to spend in DC. Went to see some of the sights as well as the Air and Space Museum and the Museum of Natural History which has the Hope Diamond as well. Was quite a good time and then at night we went out for dinner and drinks and stuff which was good fun.
Day Four: Today we went to Virginia to go to the Arlington Cemetery and have a look around. Saw the tomb of the unknown soldier and the changing of the guard as well as JFK's burial and a whole bunch of others. It was pretty interesting really. We drove past the pentagon but they don't do tours or anything which would have been cool but the whole security thing
Independence Hall
This is the Independence Hall also in Philadelphia and its where the Constitution and all that jazz was done - kinda interesting if you are into that stuff since 9/11 here in the states is really big. From there we travelled for a while to get to Raleigh. At night we went bowling which was quite fun except I haven't been bowling for a while and there were no gutter rails which I would have liked hehe.
Day Five: Drove through to Savannah Georgia today. We saw the sights from Forrest Gump including the square were he was sitting waiting for the bus and the church were the feather floated down from in the beginning. Was pretty cool. At night we went to a pirates dinner thing which was really yummy as well as getting this cool as Skullcrushers drink. Afterwards we went out to a Karaoke place and then to this other bar on the riverfront and basically had a great night out.
Day Six: Today we went to St Augustine which was a really old town and had a fort as well as a ghost tour (which i didn't do because I am a bit of a sook with those things). But basically those of us who didn't do the tour sat around and had some drinks so was a pretty good night really.
Washington DC
This is the Capitol building in background and then Washington monument. Also the reflection pool. DC was a pretty interesting city and the Smithsonian museums were amazing. Day Seven: Today we did the Kennedy Space Centre which was very amazing. We had like 5 hours to wander around and it really just wasn't enough time. Saw a lot of the sights from the movies like the hangar where the shuttles are and then the launch site and we even got to see some of the pieces that are going to be taken up to the international space station. The whole place was really interesting. We did a simulator flight however it was without the G forces which I thought was a pity but apparently it would make ya chuck up so never mind then. Also saw an IMAX movie on the international space station and it was cool too. Oh and cos its Taane's birthday soon I got him the most amazing NASA leather jacket. He will look soo staunch in it. Can't wait to give it to him yay! From here we went to Orlando and had great fun playing drinking games and stuff. Our tour leader and driver showed us "Beer Pong" which was really funny except some of us don't drink beer and so got a little tipsy by the end of the
Arlington Cemetary
This was really nice cemetary although kinda tragic when you think about all the soldiers and things who have died but I really liked the way they respected the military here night *grin*
Day Eight and Nine: Free days in Orlando so we could go to Disneyworld or Universal. I went and did the Magic Kingdom only (bloody expensive those places are). I went with Richard, Viv and Luke and we had a great day messing around although it started raining hard as during the afternoon but we didn't mind so much. Went on lots of rides and things and basically had a great day. That night we did Pleasure Island which is basically a whole bunch of clubs and pubs all owned by Disney and we just bummed around there. They had this club which had a revolving dance floor which was really cool and so we had an awesome time there as well.
Day Ten: Pensacola Beach - hmmm we drove around in the coach and drank a bit as well. I think that was about it.
Day Eleven and Twelve: Went to New Orleans but that's another blog ...
