Hey Friends and Relatives - We have added a few of you as new addresses to our travel blog - you may "unsubscribe" if you prefer not to hear from us at this time. It's kind of like the "Christmas Letter," hope it's informative; not too braggy! You are free to share the link with others who like to travel. If you like reading about delish fresh sea food, cheese burgers in Paradise, drinks with fresh fruit in them, sunsets, beaches, off the beaten path destinations, kitschey touristy stuff, local art and artists, occasional horse or boat related side trips, and "funky finds" this may be fun for you! This is our 45th blog entry. It is the third year we have been travel blogging; mostly related to road trips in the eastern and south eastern US. You can click on "previous" and trip with us from Assisi to Boadway (not by RV) and take in Pittsburgh, Lexington, Pico Peak in Vermont, Lechworth State Park in New York, Sanibel/Captiva, Clearwater, the Pan Handle, Nashville, Memphis, Boston, Key West and more if you want. Our site with the most "hits" is about where we love to live- the Capital Region of New
York State. Speaking of "hits," our stats show that show we have had over 4500 visits to our blog so far. Our Motor Home's nick name is The Schooner! It is a land yacht!
Traveling in a "home office" makes blogging a good use of time while are on the road. As I started this entry, I was in he "co-pilot" seat while Wes was driving the RV from Fort DeSoto in the Tampa Bay area to Silver Lakes near Marcco Island. We have had good internet connection (using "aircards") throughtout the trips. It is 88 degrees outside - Dec. 7! We both manage to keep up with our clients - Wes (GE) and me (a close circle of valued customers) - while we are on the road. And, of course, with postage going up, we find this a nice way to stay in touch with our 100 plus reatives and the rest of you friends!
This week's destination, Silver Lakes, is an RV Golf resort located between Naples and Marco Island,Florida. We picked it out last year. We like to sample an area and then decide whether or not we want to spend some time at that
location on a subsequent trip. It's a luxury or RVing that has proven to be a good destination formula. At Silver Lakes, there are two pools, hot tubs, and a 9 hole golf course ($15). The Schooner's site has a lake view. The landscaping is beautiful. The people we have met seem friendly. There is a mix of permanent homes (high end manufactured homes), Motor Homes (including pricy models like the legendery Prevosts), fifth wheels, air streams (classic design - to me the ultimate), etc. Last year we found Marco Island beaches to be very attractive, and we have been to Naples twice (and wanted to spend more time there. So that's why we are here right now! We will fly home for Christmas on Dec. 18. The Schooner will be in storage at the Fort Myers Airport until we return in early Feb.
So, now for the fun. We arrived on Friday and cooked at home (Motor Home). On Saturday - this is the boring stuff - Wes washed the bugs off the RV (a liability of traveling 1000 miles) and we did our laundry (while relaxing while the clothes were dying at one of Silver Lakes pools).
On Saturday night we had an appetizer and drink at the Capri Fish House on Capri Island - just before the bridge to Marco Island. We wanted to catch the sunset on South Beach (Marco) and promised the Fish House folks we'd be back. Well we came back very soon as Snooks (where we had intended to have dinner) was way overbooked and a long wait at the bar didn't appeal . SOOO, the less well known, but less expensive and better Fish House snagged us. The food was great - sauted Scallops for Wes, seafood en croute for me. The bonus was Rasti Man singng songs like Black Magic Woman and Knock, Knock, Knocking at Heaven's Door AND the return (to a nearby marina) of many of the lighted boats from the boat parade. We would recommend this restaurant and will surely be back - maybe for lunch and to rent kyaks.
Stay tuned, cio for now!
Wes and Joanne
