FLORIDA – MIAMI, KEY WEST
So of we were, toward Miami and Miami Beach. It didn't take long before we got to the place where we were supposed to drop of the rental car and pick-up the next one, but that didn't go as smooth as we hoped. For some reason we had to drop our current car of in Miami Beach and pick-up the other in Miami downtown.... duh. After doing our best to stay calm we got them to let us drop the car of in Miami and pick-up the new car there. It took us ages to find the office and finally there we discovered that we couldn't pick-up the next car before 13:00 pfffff So after all we kept this car for the rest of our stay, we could have stayed in bed 3 hours longer as we knew this in advance 😞
Never the less we were in MIAMI!!! no better yet Miami Beach. Because there is not much in Miami it self. Miami beach is the king of all beach places only followed by Noordwijk 😊 Big wide beaches and lots of DJ keeping the people on the beach awake 😊 I like noisy
That day we just explored the place, had some brunch on the boulevard, walked along the beach and looked around Biscayne Key. Later that day we headed out to Florida city where we had booked a hotel.
Florida city is a town about 25 miles from Miami and we booked it there because we planed on going to the Florida Keys the next morning and this place brought us closer to that plan.
This hotel even had a pool so I wouldn't be me if I wouldn't try out this pool 😊 the pool was fine but the place (not in the pool) was invested by frogs big green frogs 😊 but they seemed friendly.
Early the next morning we set out for the Keys stopping at as much place as possible to check out the small beaches and blue water while it was still quiet, making our way to Key west. After a couple of hours we got to Key West. We had to hurry up a little because we wanted to make a snorkel boat tour and they usually depart between 13:00 and 14:00. It wasn't long before we found a big catamaran that housed about 60
other people but despite that it seemed ok and it was just about to set sail.
After about an hour we arrived at our snorkel site but the water was invested by jellyfish, mentioning “their sting is mild so don't worry”. Most people went in the water as did Dari and I, but after getting stung a couple of times (and their sting wasn't really mild) Dari gave up but only after most people were already back on board. I decided to keep going because I had seen some huge Sting Rays and was determined to see them again and because most of the people were already out of the water due to the jellyfish they might come out again, and with success 😊 While I was trying to avoid the tentacles of the jellyfish (not completely successful) I got to see a whole bunch of Sting Rays some half buried in the sand and some floating around. What I didn't noticed was that in the mean time everybody had gone back aboard the catamaran and were all waiting for me 😊 The captain tried to find us another spot but it was not much better. So most people didn't
even bother to go back in to the water. Dari and I did though but after Dari got stung a couple of time she went back aboard, I stayed a little longer but than everybody was called back and we set sail back to the Island, free drinks for everyone!
p.s. I (Dari) am almost sure, that this happen every time by their sail! My theory is – bring the people to the place and hope not so many jellyfish will be there. To show them that you care, bring the people to some other place and try again. Because the place is really full of jellyfish, you have no other choice – on the way back get all people drunk, than they will believe the snorkeling was amazing. 😊 That's exactly what happened on the boat on the way back. 😊)
After we got back we went to explore the Island. It is a funny little Island with a lot of bars and restaurants, I am sure that if you would stay overnight you would find some interesting parties 😊
We went to look for the most southern part of the Island and with it the most southern
part of the USA. They told us that on a clear day you can see Cuba from which is about 60 miles out, but not today, of course!
After a long search we found a public beach, all the other beaches are owned by hotels (which I think should be outlawed) where we hanged out for a while, had some cool drinks and relaxed a little. Later we found a nice restaurant which was recommended ,by Hamish (the Yacht captain from Palm Beach) had a good dinner and headed back for the main land. After a 3 hour drive we arrived back at our hotel and after I had a refreshing dive in the pool midst my friends the frogs we went to sleep.
The next day we had another great continental breakfast (I still don't know what it means, but it seems like when they call it that, they can give you what ever they want) we went back to Miami Beach to return the car and to check in to our next Hostel. Now this is another funny story, we wanted to book this hostel the other day and asked for the price on which she replied
50 dollar each but if you book online it is cheaper?? I don't get these actions, sure it can be a few percent cheaper online for several reasons but less than half? Somebody must explain these things to me. But needless to say that we booked it online. Nice place though, they had their own little theater where they showed movies or just regular TV, a nice big kitchen, free internet and free transport to the airport, not bad for 23 dollar each 😊
Our last day we spend relaxing on the beach (between the beach DJ's) made some good pasta later that day and tried to get some sleep because the next day we had 2 long flights ahead of us all the way to Mumbai, India that is going to be a shock!!!!!!!!
So our US adventure has come to an end, it all went so fast! (especially now that I am finishing the story in some dusty hotel in Delhi but more about that in a later post)
I have to say that before we came to the US we were a bit skeptical. But now we can say that we really had a fantastic time
there!!!! And despite of what some Europeans might say about this country and the people in it, I love the place and its people. Almost everybody was helpful and friendly and they all love to talk (so do I). When we look at the things that we experienced we can say that everything went really well. And the country site it self, Niagara Falls, Rocky Mountains, Grand Canyon (of which I still dream) it is all amazing!!!! Americans have so much to be proud of!!!
Last but of course not least would we like to thank all the family and friends who took care of us while we were there. You guys made us feel like home and we hope we can someday repay you when you come visit us in Prague!!!!
We are going to miss the USA but we'll be back!!!!!!!!
Now it is time to make our way to a place where everything will almost surely not go so smooth, we are on our way to INDIA. We hope that everybody will still follow us when we are there, I am sure it will make for some interesting stories.
See you all in MUMBAI................
