The final blog! Week 46 and 47
So we landed in Orlando having taken a flight from Dallas where we were waved off by the wonderful Aunty Helen and Uncle Bill.
We hired a car from the airport to take us to our first hotel the Metropolitan Express. We decided we would get a 7 day pass to go to the 4 Disney parks and the 2 water park. First stop – Magic Kingdom.

We arrived at 10am to make the most of the day, parked up and got on the monorail to the park, the monorail is really good and makes it easy for you to remember where you park. I remember Michael Heppell talking about this, so it was amazing to think of that story of someone loosing their car and now see the excellent experience you get on the monorail and how they really want you to remember where you parked!
We went on Splash mountain – (log fume) – it was fab, we got soaked so we then joined the queue for Thunder Mountain. Then a lovely guy gave us 2 fast track
tickes, where you are given a time to come back and then join a really short queue or no queue! So we then managed to go on 3 rides in less than an hour! Space mountain was good, a little scary as a lot in the dark, it was fast and fun! Thunder mountain railroad was brill! Really fun we went on this and Splash M lots. At 3pm there was a parade that the cast put on, they are so energetic and enthusiastic, it was inspiring! I would love to be a dancer at Disney now! They sang, danced, waved, going past on floats, I loved it!!! I didn’t even like Disney and now I was in heaven! I was dancing around pretending to be a princess for ages after that! What a child! We went on loads more rides, then before we knew it the time was 9pm and we were ready for the night parade! All the floats are made of lights, it was stunning! It went on for an hour and then there were fireworks behind Cinderella’s castle and Tinkerbell flew out the window! We had spent 13 hours there on our first day and we
left on a high and feeling totally exhilarated!
Disney Hollywood Studio day.
Not as far from the car park to the entrance of the park today. We first made our way to see Indianna Jones “See how its done” show. It was really good to see the stunt men and women in action with huge fireballs, spikes coming up from the ground and giant balls almost hitting them! It was impressive!
Next we went to American Idol, which Matt was keen to see as he is a big fan!! We were part of an audience of around 1500/2000 people. There were volunteer tourists who would get on stage, there was a host and 3 judges like the real programme. We then got to vote on who we thought was the best. The finalist then went through to sing again in the 7pm final. The finalist at the end of the day get a gold ticket to allow them to the front of the queue to audition on the real American idol. We watched a couple during the day and then the final Matt was backing Bob Moffat a Pasteur from Missouri.
After that the
Tower of Terror was calling me! So we queued together but when we got close to the front Matt decided he already has an issue with lifts and this would certainly make it worse! So he left me to it! When I got in I strapped my lap belt together, the lift moved upwards and then the doors in from of us opened. You get to see inside the hotel as the lift moves around, which built up the tension. When you get to the top and the lift doors open again you can see for miles and miles and you can see the ocean which is amazing. Then you drop suddenly and leave you stomach behind! Ha ha it went up and down many times, I was quite anxious about this ride but actually the feeling of falling wasn’t so bad. The weeks after this ride we heard on the news someone fell out of this ride and died! So it’s very important to wear a seatbelt!
My favourite ride was Rock n Roll featuring Aerosmith. You ride a “limo” roller coaster in the dark and then the lights go on like flashing cameras, it was really fast
and I loved it! The best ride yet! The other rides were a bit lame or more focussed on children, but we still got the adrenaline kicks we needed from what we did!
We spent another day at the water park. The slides and pools were brilliant. It was SO HOT it was impossible to lie down and sun bathe because it was just too hot but we really enjoyed the water!
The shopping again was brilliant in Florida, so we spent time looking around and getting those last minute essential buys for us and for pressies!
After Orlando we drove to Miami where we experienced Miami South Beach! What a place! It was amazing, basketballers, weight lifters, roller bladders, tattoo arists, people playing music, selling it, selling anything and everything!
We spent our last day on the beach having a walk and talking about everything we had seen over the last 11 months and some of our favourite bits, but it’s hard to have an ultimate best moment as its all been priceless. It was amazing now to think it had come to an end. Our journey
of a life time had reached its final page! Although there was slight sadness that it was over, we had so much happiness inside us. What we have seen, heard, touched, and experienced things we will never forget. We have made some friends for life on the trip and had the most magical moments of our lives so far! We are so much richer for this experience and now we are so happy to move onto the next chapter in our lives back in the UK. When we set off we thought we might emigrate….now we have travelled to so many amazing and beautiful places, but its made us appreciate what we have back home. We are looking forward to seeing the green hills and trees of home and above all seeing our friends and family.
When we landed at London Heathrow on a warm August day with our family waiting to greet us. The sight of Margy breaking under the barrier to run to hug us was brilliant! We were home.
This unforgettable time will always be with us and we look forward to reading this blog in many years to come and
reminiscing!
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade wins in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” Mark Twain
