Today we had our first build day!! Apparently all the routes now have build days during orientation, which I LOVE, since we didn’t get to do that in the Outerbanks the last time. It’s a really great way to learn more about the city where your trip ends, the affordable housing need there, and get to know the locals. Today after breakfast of a banana and a plain croissant (sorry Tay! though Noah had his dipped in peanut butter and said “get yourself a croissant who can do both”—inside joke with some of the NC2SD14 girls, lol), we eventually got shuttles to the build site on Big Pine Key. On the way I got recruited to be the first operator of the official Bike & Build Snapchat, so I Hagan snapping videos of the beach, interviewing ... read more

Hey all! I MADE IT TO KEY WEST!!! First of all—thank you all so much for supporting and encouraging me to do this trip! I feel honored to be here and could not have done it without you! Today’s wake up call was at 3am (after not going to bed until after midnight ?) since I had a 5:50am flight and still had stuff to get ready. Moving all my belongings into the attic and cleaning was a tiring process in top tying to see everyone and making sure I had everything I needed. Mom picked me up at 4:15 as I was prepping my necklace for Dad. I’m going to ride with a necklace in with some of his ashes in it since he talked about us doing a trip together! Well, now we can! ... read more

Hello to all my travel-following friends. Sorry for the lengthy delay of posting. The last posting indicated we were staging for the Bahamas. Unfortunately, the weather did not seem like it was conducive for us to head there. The forecast indicated there were more northerly fronts coming down and we did not want to be hopping around trying to find a safe anchorage. We continued to stay in Key Largo and move around there until the weather settled a little more. Once that happened, we headed south (then west into the Keys), which is where we have decided to stay for a little while. Life has been good and relaxing. We are getting more and more comfortable aboard the boat. Sailing is a bit different on this boat because she travels much faster and sails much ... read more

Today we have arrived at Key West, the last stop of our seven day cruise through the Western Caribbean. There are two other ships in port with us, the Carnival Sensation and a Royal Caribbean ship docked at the main harbor in town so we must use the facilities at the adjacent naval station. Although it's just an extension of the commercial pier, it's on an active military base and access is restricted. Once off the ship passengers will be escorted off the base and no photos are allowed while on the facility. Our alarm sounds at 7:30am and minutes later the immigration instructions start. Although we will be docking in Ft Lauderdale tomorrow, Key West is the first US port we are arriving at after visiting foreign ports so that is where immigration officials will ... read more

Devant ... read more

Hello! For some reason our blog site was blocked as they suspected us to be spammers. After an email back and forth, the site has now been restored. Below are posts from our first two days pasted from Word. --- June 8, 2016 This morning, we began with a pick-up at 5:30 a.m. Though traffic was heavy, we made it to the airport with plenty of time to spare and enjoyed a sit down breakfast at an Italian restaurant. Our flight didn’t take off quite on time. When the pilot said we would be taking off within the next two minutes, there were still 20 people in the aisle waiting to get to their seats. After the “flight attendants, please prepare for takeoff” announcement we sat for roughly half an hour listening to a 14 month ... read more

One day sail out of Tampa dropped us on the white sand beaches of Key West. As classical as we believed it was. Nothing like fresh Key Lime Pie! Another day sail and we're on South Beach with it's historic Art Deco buildings on Ocean Drive. Back on the ship for our 5 days at sea.....lots of naps and massages!... read more

Old Town, Key West, Florida I'm normally very good about directions and can retrace my steps easily and quickly. I also don't tend to forget things. But yesterday morning was a bit challenging and, although we joked about it all day, I must admit I am wondering if all this traveling is mixing my mind up. Or maybe I'm just getting old and can't rely on old habits as much. You see, yesterday I forgot both my phone and my car. My head? Well, its still attached, but... Here's the story: We had taken the bus into Key West Tuesday, mostly because we didn't want to have to park the car (it isn't cheap), and because we were pretty much headed to just one spot - Duval Street and Mallory Square. But yesterday, our destinations were ... read more
