Signed up for another month in Marathon. The last few weeks have not been all that great, weather wise, so I want to get an extended period of nice weather before I go somewhere else. It looks like the Bahamas have not been that great either for the last week or so. It has gotten progressively worse here and the last few days have been pretty miserable. Steady non stop 20-30 kt wind making the wind chill at night go down to 28. I am sitting in the marina building in long johns and four layers of shirts and sweaters and and blowing on my hands to keep them warm. Today it is supposed to start warming up. Next week end it is suposed to be back in the upper 70's. Got my heat exchanger put ... read more

I told a neighboring boat a few days ago that I have gotten very lazy. All I want to do is sit on the boat and eat and have a glass or two of wine and sleep and read. They told me that it is called Keys Desease and the only cure is to get out of the Keys. Ha. I did manage to play softball today for the first time since my pulled muscle two weeks ago. No one fell or pulled anything today, we must be getting in shape. Saturday some new friends took me over to a swimming pool that they have been using. As long as you buy a drink or two or get a meal at the bar beside the pool no one ever says anything. I think I may be ... read more

Still in Marathon and getting lazier. Had a great turkey meal yesterday. Everyone brought a dish and someone at the marina supplied Turkey and mashed potatoes. There were probably 200 people here. I forced myself to not eat until I got sick. It has happened before. Then back to the boat and read and napped the rest of the day. A few people are coming down in the next few weeks for various reasons so I may extend for another month. I have resumes in for diving jobs also but it doesn't look good unless I commit until May. Went to Key West on Christmas Eve to scout it out for New Years Eve. Duval Street is pretty fun but ended up spending money. Can't be helped sometime. Went to the original Margarettavile but Jimmy was ... read more

If you go online and google Marathon City Marina aparently you can look at a web cam and see Seaquel. At night I am just in front of two boats that have multi colored lights on their boats saped in an upside down vee. In the day I have an American flag on the back of the boat, a dodger over the companionway door, and a cover over the helm. ... read more

Hot here today. Mid 80's and humid. I'm sitting in the marina lounge charging things up. Lots of friendly people here. Got into a softball game yesterday. It is a weekly thing. Bunch of old men dropping about 20 years. About every third runner falls down running to first base after hitting the ball. Not many throws from the outfield making it to the infield without a bounce or two. Not many fast balls whipping around either. Ha. but lots of fun. Even a guy getting mad about a call. Dinghy motor still hanging on but cutting off every now and then. Found a nice swimming pool to go to but not sure if we are supposed to go there or not. I guess we'll find out. ... read more

Made it to Marathon with one more anchorage. Wed had another adventure. Motor made an ungodly noise and cut off. I started drifting toward shallow water so threw out the anchor. Started to call tow boat us but decided to dive under the boat to take a look. Found a crab pot line wraped tight around the prop. had to get a knife and cut it off. Would have not taken long if I could hold my breath more than 10 seconds. It took about a half hour and about 20 times under the boat but finally got it off. I could not believe that the engine started right up and I was off again. I do have a rattle at low RPM's though. I hope it did not bent the shaft and only knocked it ... read more

Hello again! So yesterday was another one of those infamous "lazy days." When I woke up, Todd, Melissa, and Grandpa were out on the boat hunting for some lobsters to go with the 2 Todd already caught. Luckily I made it out to the dock by the time they got home, and I got to take pictures of the lobsters (or "bugs" as they call them) before they were prepped for dinner! Grandpa is so good with the creatures! He can just lift them up no problem! Not going to lie, they kind of scare me. Grandpa had watched Todd prep them at the fish table the previous day, so he just jumped on in there and tore their heads off haha! After that we all just kind of hung around. You'd be sick to hear ... read more

Hello! So I didn't make a blog yesterday! It was just a really nice, relaxing Tuesday and I only took a couple pictures all day. When I woke up in the morning, Todd, Melissa, and Grandpa were going fishing so I decided to join in on that action. We got the boat out below the bridge and let loose with our fishing lines. Of course, I didn't catch a single thing. Grandpa was catching fish left and right, but they were all way too small to keep. After about 20 minutes, I decided to sleep (haha!) for a nice 2-hour or something nap. The fishing isn't too great right now, but hopefully if the weather and water conditions improve, we can go fishing out in the ocean instead of the little canals or bayside. After fishing ... read more

Due to internet problems, I couldn't post a blog last night! I was very upset but hooray for today because the internet is up and running! I guess I should start from the beginning. Friday night was the first night the family all got together. We decided to go to the restaurant my sister and myself work at--Willow Tree Cafe. Thankfully we decided to hang out with the family and eat instead of serve. It was pretty fun. Everyone (except Max and me haha) had great German beer on draft, listened to accordian playing, and ate delicious German food. Saturday we all woke up early to get on the road. We split into two cars because Todd and Melissa have a friend that lent us a boat! Pretty crazy! So the boys went in one truck ... read more

There was a lot of satisfaction in dropping the anchor in Boot Key Harbour - after 1200 miles we had arrived and did not have to plan the next day's leg. From Fort Lauderdale we decided to go outside to avoid a repeat of the endless bridges we have encountered in this part of Florida. So we had a good look at Miami from the Atlantic - then on to Key Biscayne. We have had only one night in a marina in the past 2 weeks - a nice change and good for the budget as most down in this area expect $80 - 100 per night then charge extra for electric plug in and water - all in US $$ of course. Marathon is quite a gathering port for cruisers like us. There are 265 ... read more
