Along the 7 mile bridge
Part of the old bridge that is now a fishing bridge Here we are, still in the beautiful Florida Keys.
Tuesday morning we were back at Marathon City Park for another game of softball. Another big turnout of players, 26 I think. Kerry felt much more coordinated than he did on Sunday, his knee is better and he’s getting into the rhythm. Because there were so many players, someone decided they should play 9 innings so that everyone got plenty of chances to bat. So, after playing 9 innings, Kerry is sore and tired.
Tuesday afternoon Alex and Cindy came over for supper. We sat at the beach for a while drinking adult beverages, telling stories, and laughing before heading back to the camper for hamburgers from the grill and avocado salad. We laughed until our faces hurt. A very good evening.
Wednesday we broke camp and headed south about 20 miles to Bahia Honda SP. We’re set up right next to the bath house, which is pretty handy. The water is gorgeous and the bridges give the views a certain character. The old railroad bridge, which was part of the Florida East Coast Line built by Henry Flagler and completed in 1912, is now a fishing bridge. The
bridge is missing a span so that tall boats can pass through the Bahia Honda Cut between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. Bahia Honda Key has nice sandy beaches, unlike most of the other Keys. We went down to Big Pine Key for supper.
This morning, Thursday, it was back to the ballfield. Again there were probably 26 players on hand. Today’s game was much closer in score, 5-6, I think. It was a good defensive game with no injuries. Afterwards we had lunch at the Castaways, where Kerry had softshell crab and I had mahi mahi. I could really get used to this. Seafood is good for you, right? Tonight back to the Hurricane Bar and Grille for 25 cent wing night. Kerry has been looking forward to it so much that he’s had garlic wings for the past 2 days. Tonight’s wings were very good, though my margarita was a bit disappointing. But you just can’t beat their wings and fries.
