It has been a very busy few days. I will write about what happened, but maybe not be to accurate on the when it happened. The days kind of blend together.
The Symphony was well received by most of the attendees. Save one. Not my cup of tea, for sure. Diane scored us excellent seats. This theatre, Jacoby Hall, is part of a large performing arts center, Times Union Center for the Performing Arts and it is a true symphony hall with large comfy seats, plenty of leg room, excellent site lines, and wonderful sound. I studied the walls, floors, seats, etc. I can’t tell you much about the music; I for sure did not know anything about it. There were two events at the same time, Romeo and Juliet ballet happened in another space, but I could not tell you who did it. They have a large gift shop, concessions with $10 wine, and a honey roasted nut station, which for sure were not allowed into the symphony hall. There were many volunteers all over the place. Patrons have their bags inspected and walk thru scanners.
Mary’s friend, Marilyn, came to visit for a few days. One day
we spent ‘playing golf.’ I drove the golf cart. They all had fun and had some great shots and some very awful ones. Poor Diane did not leave a sand trap undiscovered.
We spent lazy afternoons on the beach. The morning fog dissipates around noon, the air heats up and the breeze is mostly gentle and off the land, not the 62-degree water. No shells found to speak of.
Diane and I took a ride to FORT CAROLINE AND TIMUCUAN HISTORICAL SITE NATIONAL MEMORIAL, stamp 2 into my National Park passport book. A little known site, Fort Caroline memorializes the short lived French presence in 16
th century Florida with exhibits how the Indians lived in the area and became friends to these ill-fated French who were cruelly destroyed by Spanish invaders.
The campground has been relatively quiet. I expect it will fill up on Thursday at the start of the long MLK weekend. I will be moving on to Thousand Trails Clermont/Orlando on Saturday. This cg has everything. Fresh water lake, ocean, water park, nicely placed but unlevel campsites spaced between dense pines, palms and scrub oak underbrush. There is evidence of racoons each morning. Mary was
on a hunt to photograph an armadillo, and we found one on the roadway late one night and she got her pretty good picture. I have started exercising every morning. I sometimes wonder why I stop for such long periods as I feel so good after completing a bike ride, stretching and weights. The hardest part is getting up off the floor at the end, it’s difficult to put weight on my knees, but the overall wellbeing I feel makes up for it. I have been sticking to my diet, keto/atkins/south beach and my carbs are 50-70 g/day, sometimes a little more, sometimes a little less. I have been riding my bike each morning, and almost hit 1.5 miles today. It’s not hilly here, but I can’t avoid the long slow grades which do slow me down.
There is a large 5
th wheel across from me, maybe 40 feet. (a trailer type that is towed attached to large pick up truck .) They are an older couple here for a party week with 2 other senior couples. They were watching the Texans game the other night and really hooting it up. For two mornings in a row I have
observed the Mister bring out his cat littler box, put it on his picnic table and scoop out the clumps and throw them into the dense brush between campsites. Gross. Even if wood-based litter is used, you are supposed to pick up after your pets, not throw it into the woods. I can’t imagine what happens to clay-based litter when exposed to rain. Nasty, just nasty. I don’t know what to say to him.
TV via air antenna works just fine. I get all the network channels and all the PBS stations and lot of other stuff, too. Not much on Monday night, so I have watched 2 episodes of The Bachelor. Ugh. If anyone else is guilty of this? Hanna needs to find a life beyond ABC. I downloaded some stuff from Prime and have watched The Aeronauts – predictable but enjoyable – and just started The Kettering Incident – weird. Tonight, the Jeopardy GOAT continues, but I thought I read that Ken Jennings won it last week. I am confused.
Tonight I am staying in, writing my blog and paying bills, I think Mary and Diane are going to the movies. Tomorrow might find us taking
the ferry across the (almost at the mouth) of the St. John’s River to Fernandina Beach, known for its quaint shoppes and FORT CLINCH NATIONAL PARK WITH A STAMP for my passport book. I never thought I would get 1 stamp on this trip, and now to get three is unbelievable.
