Jim grilling outside
..enjoying the weather - notice: shorts, no shoes! Hi everyone,
Most of what we have been doing is repetitive as we have ‘settled’ in our Fort Myers, Fl life. Monday a.m. meeting, followed by water aerobics for me, line dancing Monday evening, Flea Market early a.m. Wed., Bingo Wed. evening, yard sales early a.m. Thursday, Friday & Saturday followed by Flea Markets on Fri. Sat. & Sunday. We also have an ice cream social every Sunday evening (all you can eat ice cream for $1.50).
We went to an RV show in Tampa and ‘ran into’ some of our friends whom we will see when get to Clermont, Fl. in March. We went to a large antique show in West Palm Beach, Fl. and saw some dealers whom we set up next to in Brimfield! (Small world for sure).
In addition on Jan. 31 we had an ‘Orange Grove RV Park Day’ (in lieu of a welcome back dinner). It was an all you can eat event with burgers, hot dogs, soft drinks, beer and many side dishes and cakes for dessert. In between all the eating, many games were played all day. We had shuffleboard, corn-hole, ladder ball, darts, horseshoes, billiards and several board games.
We each received a (potential) prize ticket for every game we played and the winner of each game played won 2 tickets. The winning ticket was a prize of $100.00 (we didn’t win). The night ended with a dance which included live music.
The next day was ‘Superbowl’ Sunday – which our park ‘kicked off’ with a Chili contest. There were 13 slow-cookers full of chili to be judged and after the winner was announced – we all got to eat the chili, along with hot dogs, potato salad, chips & dessert (as much as we could eat) before the start of the game. We came ‘home’ to watch the game, as we figured we could get a better view from our own TV (not that we would have missed anything).
Jims left knee was still bothering him (just slightly now) – but we figured, since it was still hurting, he should have it checked out to make sure it wasn’t a serious injury. We went to an Orthopedic M.D. here who x-rayed it. The good news is that it isn’t anything serious – it’s just his kneecap and the M.D. gave Jim a rubber knee support (one
getting ready for water aerobics
The pool is heated to 85 degs and feels oh so wonderful! of those that has the hole in the middle that exposes your kneecap). Also, Jim needs to do physical therapy for our time remaining here. The (kinda’) bad news is that while we were at the Ortho MD – he noticed the ‘puffy’ varicose veins on Jim’s right leg and recommended a vein M.D. He mentioned that sometimes varicose veins are a cause of something more serious. So, off we went to the vein M.D. they did an ultrasound and came back with the result that the vein in his leg is leaking and the blood is pooling and that is the dark blotches we can see in his leg. The MD informed us that it isn’t necessarily urgent, but there is a very real possibility (that since there is so much pressure going through the vein) – it could ‘pop’ and blood would come ‘shooting out’. It might not happen this year, it might not happen next year – but he says that if it does happen – (it looks like) so much blood spurting out that everyone ends up calling 911 and going to the hospital – the hospital just patches you up and sends you home and
Jim + I - RV show Tampa 1-17-14
Our friend Sandy took this pic of us at the RV show in Tampa, Fl (it was a windy day as you can see and a little cool - notice we are wearing jackets) you still have the same underlying condition. He (the M.D.) could, if Jim wanted, fix the problem now. It is an outpatient, general anesthesia, while Jim is awake surgical procedure. Except for the 1
st day, there is no down time, and Jim would go back a week later for an ultrasound to make sure that no blood clots have been produced. The surgery is just a matter of cauterizing the vein to stop the ‘leaking’.
Jim has decided to do the procedure and it is scheduled for the 20
th, and the follow-up ultrasound on the 27
th. Immediately following the surgery and until the follow-up visit, Jim will need to wear a ‘compression’ thigh-high stocking every night. We were joking, in the car on the way home, that he will look like a ‘mummy’ at bedtime. A brace on each hand for his Carpal Tunnel, the compression stocking on his right leg and the knee brace on his left leg (though he won’t really be wearing the knee brace at night) – the visual in our brains just struck us funny! We will be leaving Fort Myers on the 1
st of March and heading a few hours North to Clermont,
Fl. where we hope to visit with friends. Hope you enjoy the pics that I have attached and I will probably not write again until we settle to our routine in March.
Stay safe and warm everyone!!
P.S. – oh yeah…..the weather here is pretty boring – sunny & 80º, sunny & 80º, sunny & 80º! (<:

Fort myers florida relocation
We are planning on relocating from Wisconsin to Fort Myers, fl. However, we get conflicting opinions on buying a condo and renting. Some say we should rent for a year, then decide where we want to buy/live. Now we are unsure what we should do. Suggestions needed
