Chill out day We rose about 7:45 and had wonderful coffee and GMA. It’s Tuesday and we have to move today to another campsite, same campground just another site. I booked this campground late and was lucky to find 2 nights in 1 site and one in another. The people that occupied the site didn’t leave, supposed to be out by 11 so Dee and I went to the beach with both vehicles. We did the dog beach so Oscar could come with us and the weather was wonderful so we donned our bathing suits, got water and chairs and settled on the dog beach. People here just let their dogs run all over, including your spot, towel, food and all. Some are rather rude, it’s a real free for all. So we settled at the ... read more

Chill out day When I opened my eyes this morning I looked out the big back window and saw the sunlight coming up over the water. It was an amazing sight. Picture We enjoyed coffee outside watching the birds and the changing light. This is a great campground, lots of wildlife, privacy, quiet and stars. Did I mention the restrooms? I had the best shower of my camping career this morning, hot, lot of water pressure and clean environment. Simple pleasures of life. Breakfast was my favorite food, especially camping, oatmeal, walnut pancakes. They were exceptionally good this time and filled us for the better part of the day. I asked Dee what she wanted to do and she said read my book for a little while. We got our chairs in the sun, bottle of ... read more

Fort De Soto County Park, 35 Pinellas Bayway South, Tierra Verde, Florida, is a real gem. It’s located near St. Petersburg/Tampa on the Gulf of Mexico. A bit about the nearby attractions and some of our favorite restaurants follows at the end of this blog entry. You can’t escape the lovely water views with five interconnected islands making up Fort De Soto Park. Expect to share the experience with a wide variety of birds, fish, an occasional raccoon, and tons of squirrels. We really enjoyed watching water birds – egrets, herons, and pelicans – hunt for fish. We spied a few dolphins making sleek arches in the calm waters and tons of floppy mullets flying high and landing in the bay with a slap and a splash. There is enough room at the park so that ... read more

This is our fourth time at Fort De Soto County Park. It is located in the Tampa Bay area near St. Peterburg. Previous travel blogs from us have covered the area fairly well. Not amazingly, Fort De Soto is the top "hit" getter on the blog. People really want to plan their trips here. We are facing some "weather" because hurricane Ida has hit the Panhandle (Pensacola area) of Florida; so we are cutting our visit to the Tampa Bay area short. We received a credit for the part of our stay that we cancelled at the camp ground - a very fair and nice consideration. Our waterfront camp site was wonderful. North Beach, designated among the best beaches in the U.S., was a little wilder than normal because of the storm. At the Campground, which ... read more
