Earendil under sail
in Santa Rosa Sound Friday, 3 December, 2010
We did get out yesterday morning with sunny skies and fairly warm temperatures. Sara and Trevor finally were able to throw up their sails for most of the day. I think they mostly motor-sailed, as the wind was not sufficient to move them with any speed. But with the sails up and the motor running, they made pretty good time.
We stopped for the night in Ft. Walton Beach at the City Dock, which was free, a wonderful thing to be. We had just finished tying up, when up from the parking lot came my cousins Gena, Bob, Cathy and Bill. Sara and Trevor arrived a few minutes later and rafted up on our port side. After tours of the boats and cool beverages, we sat and visited for a while. Then we all loaded into Cathy and Bill’s van (poor Cathy had to sit in the back) and went to Red Lobster for dinner. We sat long at the table enjoying each others’ company and many laughs, before heading back to the boats.
We visited a bit more before they headed for home. It was a wonderful time and we thoroughly enjoyed it.
Bird Condo
everything is condo in Florida Then the 4 of us studied charts and made plans for the next few days before giving it up and going to bed.
This morning was sunny and mild again. Well it was mild for us in our closed pilot house, maybe a bit chilly yet for Sara and Trevor in their open cockpit. They put up their sails again once in Choctawhatchee Bay, but the wind was not cooperative. We had agreed where to meet, so we ran at our normal speed and cleared the pipes (or whatever.)
We watched as fighter jets took off and flew overhead, I even got a few pictures of the sailboat and a jet in the same frame. This afternoon, as last night, we are hearing the boom-boom of exploding ordinance out in the Gulf of Mexico.
We are at the eastern end of Choctawhatchee Bay, tomorrow night we’ll stay in a marina in Panama City.

So glad the weather is improving. Sounds like the food hasn't been bad either. Too bad you're out there in all that ocean and had to depend on Red Lobster for fish... Bet it was good!
