There are lots of places within walking distance of our hotel, so first thing this morning we took a small walk. This is not something that is done very often, so it feels very lonely when you walk along the street. We first made a visit to the Ron Jon surf shop and museum. It is huge and has a selection of everything you could need for the beach, not just for surfing. Next stop was the Key Lime Pie shop. The gentleman here offered us frozen samples of the pie which was great Next we went to a couple of the nearby grocery stores / chemists close by. Had a good wander around but did not buy anything. After a little rest to catch up with the blog, we took to the road again for ... read more

It is now time for some serious domestic shopping. It is so nice to be back in America. Norwegian Epic docked in Port Canaveral this morning at about 4.30am. With all the normal shuddering of the bow thrusters etc. upon docking whilst with the getting into port, we could not get back to sleep so decided to give up and get up about 6.00am. It looks like most of the ship had the same idea. In the buffet, it looked like they were trying to feed all 4000+ guests at one time and it was absolute chaos. We have had a great cruise so this is okay. The staff are doing a really great job of trying to keep it all flowing efficiently though. At about 8.15am, they called our colour code for disembarkation and within ... read more

We slept in a little today. Then got up, got ready and went downstairs for breakfast. The hotel had a hot breakfast available. After breakfast we had a little bit of time to just relax so we watched TV before heading out to go to the ship. I knew where the National car return was so I made a left out of the hotel parking lot and soon my GPS was having me turn around. So, I followed the GPS and lo and behold we discovered that National/Alamo/Enterprise have moved to a location at the port. We returned our car and waited a little while for the shuttle to take us to the cruise terminal just a mile away. After going through security and checking in, we had about a 20 wait until they started calling ... read more

Our spring trip this year was a cruise on the Carnival Sunshine to the Southern Caribbean, visiting CuraƧao, Aruba and Grand Turk. I had not visited the ABC islands before or the Turks & Caicos, so this was all new territory! We arrived in Cape Canaveral , Florida, the day before our cruise was to sail. As is our usual custom, we drove from Springfield, Virginia, over two days, spending a night at Santee, South Carolina. In Cape Canaveral, our hotel was again the Marriott Residence Inn. No launches from the Kennedy Space Center to see this evening, as there had been last year. Before heading to dinner at Florida's Seafood in Cocoa Beach, I wanted to see the I Dream of Jeannie historical marker at Lori Wilson Park. I'd read about it on the Roadside ... read more

We're Going to the Beach...Yahoo, Yippee. What a wonderful day we had with our good friends, Mike and MJ. Remember they were our professional, Harry Potter tour guides at Universal Studios. This day they were professional beach-goer tour guides. They had our watery itinerary all mapped out. MJ drove....brave lady. I haven't driven since we have been in Florida...scaredy cat. She drove us around like a limo driver...not a bit nervous! Her, not me. First stop: the huge Ron Jon Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach. Lulu had fun trying various photo shoots. Next stop: neat gift shop across the road with items priced super low. Loved it! As we sucked up the atmosphere of this beachside neighborhood, we stopped and bought a picnic lunch of chips and subs. Carrying 4 folding chairs, we danced across the ... read more

Enjoyable day yesterday just hanging out at the resort pool. Later we met a friend from St. Thomas now living in the area. Happy Hour drinks at Lilly's and then dinner at Fish Lips in Port Canaveral. The food was great all around and we had a pretty good sampling of the menu between the three of us. I had scallops and risotto; Dennis had scewers of shrimp, beef and thresher shark; our friend at a ribeye sandwich. This restruant is right on the water and good place to watch the cruise ships leaving in the early evening.... read more

Yesterday we had a lovely morning at the beach. The afternoon was spent discussing the costs and benefits of converting our timeshares to the point system with John, the realtor here. After that we went out to the Cocoa Beach Pier for happy hour. We discovered that the lobster special, though raised to $10, still is happening on Fridays so we'll be back. We enjoyed our drinks and some appetizers while watching the surfers. They were struggling, the waves weren't great. After this we drove around looking at the properties in Port Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. We also checked out the beaches. I don't know what a "bad" beach would look like, but these were all great.... read more

We finally made it to the beach, yay! Cocoa Beach has flattened out and doubled in width since our first trip 30+ years ago. Unfortunately for Dennis this also means the boogie boarding isn't as good as it used to be. It's great for me, beach lounger that I am. We feasted on blue crab for dinner at the Old Fish House - so tasty. They have tried to slip in a females in the past so be specific, ask for all males and enjoy. We closed out the evening with the band in the pool area. Very nice day.... read more

3rd day and we have yet to sit on the beach. Okay, first night we were exhausted. Happy hour, grocery shopping and done for the day. Yesterday was kind of cloudy all day climaxing in a horrific storm last night. We were under a tornado warning for 3 1/2 hours and it rained buckets - 2 to 3 inches an hour. We did manage to slip in happy hour again, however. Today we attended the welcome meeting at our condo and got talking about buying a 3rd week. It seems a little crazy and we really can't do it right now. Turns out if we want to turn one of our weeks into points for a nominal fee we can buy a small hotel unit week. It would be nice if sometime in the future the ... read more
