It is now time for some serious domestic shopping. It is so nice to be back in America.
Norwegian Epic docked in Port Canaveral this morning at about 4.30am. With all the normal shuddering of the bow thrusters etc. upon docking whilst with the getting into port, we could not get back to sleep so decided to give up and get up about 6.00am. It looks like most of the ship had the same idea.
In the buffet, it looked like they were trying to feed all 4000+ guests at one time and it was absolute chaos. We have had a great cruise so this is okay. The staff are doing a really great job of trying to keep it all flowing efficiently though.
At about 8.15am, they called our colour code for disembarkation and within 20 minutes we were off the ship.
We have a car booked to pick up from a nearby Budget Rental office. When we get to their van there are about 40 other people also waiting, but they have not been able to form an orderly queue. Two more vans came and went and then we eventually managed to get onto the
third one.
Once at the rental centre, the queue in the office was about 50-60 people long. It took about 90 minutes to get to the desk. Theresa asked why they were so busy and the assistant advised that many people were turning up at the rental centre with cars booked at another location. These are people basically trying it on causing longer queues for others like us who had attended the correct rental location.
As a result of this, the small fiesta style car we had booked was no longer available. We ended up with a really huge Toyota instead at no extra charge. It was lovely and big enough for our entire luggage and more importantly for our shopping. Just glad we are not going far in it at 19 miles to the gallon. Thankfully, fuel is also a lot cheaper in USA. Petrol is under four dollars a gallon imperial.
It was about 1100am, when we eventually left the rental centre, so we had a wander into some shops further down the A1A shore road and then went to the AT&T shop to get a SIM for our USA mobile phone. As we are
in USA for nearly two weeks, we have decided we needed our own data source rather than relying on the various hotels we are staying it. It is also useful to have when we are travelling around.
We are staying at the Motel 6 which is conveniently right on the 520. This is a very central for all the shops we want to visit in this area. There are dollar shops galore everywhere and shopping heaven for us.
Whilst George had a small siesta, Theresa had a walk along the local beach. She managed to catch three of the cruise ships leaving. Norwegian Epic was about an hour later leaving than the rest.
We had dinner at Denny´s tonight. We love this place and have nothing like it at home.
We have been awake since very early today, so time for an early night. Unfortunately our neighbours were a little noisy.
