The One About Freeze Warnings and Watches
One Son reads the blog, Valentine card$ received and money spent already.
It got so cold Saturday night/early Sunday morning. When I got up it was 40 degrees outside and frost on the ground. It was a beautiful morning, crystal clear, no breeze, just COLD! Has my blood thinned???? Am I becoming a frail southern girl? My electric heater worked all night long, keeping the interior temp at 58. Brrrr. Despite the early morning chill, Moya heats up nicely. I have an unobstructed exposure to the sun all day long, so as soon as it comes up, the inside temperature goes up to 70 despite what the outside is. No need for heat.
Breaking camp with Ginnie was sad, but, by golly, between the 3 of us we got her in ship shape in about a half an hour. Another one of her TT friends came over and took both boys over to the dog park to let them get tired out before their one hour ride to TT Peace River in Wauchula. We folded her fences, put her bike in her car, swept rugs, etc., etc. and she was ready
When the Frost is on the Pumpkin
but it's on the bike cover, not pumpkin to leave by 9:30. She did make it easily and was able to make the sewer lottery at 1:00 and managed to secure a site, with her door on the shady side, always a plus.
Kathy and I got cleaned up and headed out for a few chores. First stop, craft/flea sale at the Rec Hall, where many of the same crafters we saw at TT Peace River were selling their stuff. I noticed that the delicate plants around the Reception center were covered in plastic to protect them from the ‘freeze’. We set out to find the Petco, about 15 miles away, and after another wrong turn we found it. While they did not have the TERRIER dog food I was looking for, they had the correct brand, Nature’s Recipe, and I just substituted another formula. I also bought him a Kong (hard rubber toy I put a dog treat inside and he chews on until he gets the treat.) I have one at home. The rubber is so hard, I can’t get a treat inside it easily. This one seemed more pliable for my fingers and his jaws. I also bought a new bag of dog treats. I looked at beds, but the one made to fit inside his crate, which we already have but instead of being white is now a dingy shade of dirt despite numerous washings, but at $30 I said he can deal with dinge.
On to eat out. Kathy had a taste for Olive Garden – whoa – 45 minute wait. Sunday lunch. Wow. We nixed the idea for lunch and just went to the grocery store and bought a few things. I was surprised to find a very large dog aisle at Publix, with a bed very similar to the ones I saw at Petco for $30. This one was priced at $8.99. I bought it. For $8.99 he can chew it up. It is much fluffier than the $30 competition. AND, he loves it!!! Good move on my part!
I made my tuna/arugala/pasta/caper/roasted red pepper salad and I stuffed myself, making it both late lunch and early dinner. I even had a large glass of red without suffering any palpitations!!
I gave Winston his new Kong. I first tried to put one of the new treats in it, but my weak hands and the strong rubber did not make it easy. If I broke the treat to make it fit easier, it crumbled. I struggled and inserted one, and he played with it for a long time without any luck. I pried the treat partially out and he played some more and ate the exposed part, but leaving part rattling inside. His bite is just not strong enough to force the opening open so he can get the treat out. Poor thing. So, I stick a spoon inside, force the treat partially thru the X shaped hole and give it back to him.
The temperature nose dived Sunday night. As soon as the sun went down the temperature dropped 20 degrees, and continued to drop to the low of 39 when I woke up at 6:30. There was frost everywhere!!!
Runtastic said I walked 1.82 miles this morning!!! The sun warmed us up nicely.
At 10 I attended my meeting with the Sales Rep to hear what they wanted from me and what I was willing to do. Surprisingly, the guy did not go into heavy sales pitch. I am a Snowbird, and only use my membership over the winter. Buying an upgraded membership to use year round does not make any financial sense. And the sales guy told me that! Wow!! I can get the second zone by renewing, and we talked about other discount programs at other ELS properties, specifically the nearby Encore resorts.
I took Winston for a long bike ride, and he really is getting the hang of my saying “Left” means he should hang back and go left.
I sat outside in the sun in a tank top for about an hour, and even managed to nod off (I was reading Moya’s user manual) and it really was warm!! Winston woke me up barking to a passing dog. I went to the edge of the street to drag him back, when the dog’s owners realized they knew me. They were parked next to our group at the 2012 Tampa RV show, and we must have partied together. They remembered Winston and that I had a Class C. They had seen Winston outside here before and wondered if it was us, but did not recognize the Class A!!! I am so amazed, for I surely did not recognize them at all. We noticed that Winston was flirting with their Betty!!! They looked like Lady and The Tramp!!! Betty is their one year old Shih Tzu. Their previous dog, Eddie, a large CockaPoo died right after the RV show, and they immediately acquired Betty. They gave her a rhyming name so if they miss-called her Eddie, it wouldn’t be such an obvious error…..That made me laugh. Nice folks. From outside Rochester, NY. Winston has a girlfriend, Winston has a girlfriend.
I heard from Ginnie late Monday afternoon. She reported 2 things. Remember the idiot who took out the water pole getting into his TT Peace River campsite causing us to have to boil our water for a week? Well, on his way out on Friday he hit that same pole. While not breaking it, he knocked it over – the water main did not leak any water, so no boiling was necessary, but a repair was. I sure hope they charged him for all this, and would think that he would be too embarrassed to ever show his face again. She also reported that a car plowed into an RV that was waiting its turn to register, but was pulled only partially off the road, and stuck out into Rte 27. She had not heard of any injuries, but someone was taken away in an ambulance. The car and Class B RV, small van type, were both off the road, but still on campground property and were quite a mess. When she was finally able to get out to Wal-Mart, she saw more police activity chasing someone in a nearby orange grove. Busy day for the Wauchula police!!!! Bad boy Doberman Elliot continues to keep Ginnie on her toes, bouncing all over the place.
Speaking of funny dog stories, Kathy’s Dachshund Oscar came over with her for dinner, and managed to jump up on the picnic table and grab the brick of cheese wrapped in plastic and run as far as his long lead would let him before Kathy snagged him. She had to cover his nose to make him let it go. Yes, Winston was barking at the dogs passing, and he managed to wrap his lead around Kathy’s leg and pull on it causing her to wince. Remind me again why we have dogs????
My need for beef finally got to me today, and I dragged out my mini Weber Grill and self lighting charcoal that didn’t light until I lit a fire starter cube I stuck in the middle of the charcoal. Yesterday’s purchase of a pre made hamburger with blue cheese mixed in was awesome. I managed to cook it perfectly, and even toasted the bakery hamburger roll on the grill. I was in heaven. I even had another glass of red with no palpitations.
It’s supposed to go only to the low 50s tonight, that will be wonderful. Why oh why did I not bring my down comforter on this trip. I need to have my head examined.
