The one about Loners on Wheels
January 5. Richard’s birthday. He caught up to my age again as he does every year. Happy Birthday, Richard.
The cold weather held until January 7. Then it started to warm up slightly, and by the 10
th it was warm enough for us yankees to wear capris and TShirts. Life at Florilow follows a routine. Walk the dog, exercise, shower, hitch a ride to the store, eat lunch out, General Hospital, Happy Hour, dinner in rig or eat out, play cards or games or not, watch TV, bed. Repeat. Not a bad schedule, kind of like home, but with different friends and different restaurants and no theatre volunteering.
I did unhook, dropping all land lines in my campsite and went to downtown Par Gas. There really was a long line, but my 10 gallon tank took 6.25 gallons of propane. I never trust those idiot gauges, but my propane monitor seems to be reasonably accurate..
High school classmate, Maureen Kelly, came to visit one day with her Hearing Assistive dog, Marley. What a good visit. She brought a beautiful bouquet of flowers in memory of my step mother which lasted 2
weeks!!! She also brought lunch a'la Publix which was amazing. So good to see you, Maureen; I hope we get together again at a mini MHS thing or at my campground in Clermont.
We went to Webster Flea Market, always a favorite for me, but the vendor numbers were down from my memory of previous years. Perhaps just because it was cold, perhaps vendors were waiting until MLK holiday, who knows. I did find a veggie vendor who sold produce by the piece, not by the basket or bagfull, so I was able to get 2 tomatoes, 2 ear of corn, one sweet potato, etc. I also bought 2 Rada knives.
Many at Florilow are sick with cold. I tried to stay healthy and washed my hands until raw. At the start of a sore throat, I sucked ColdEze, then went and bought Airborne, and either it was allergies, or I knocked it out, I never really got sick other than sore throat. I did start taking Claritin, too.
We went to a very nice Arts and Craft’s fair in The Villages. I bought a few things, lusted after others, and took lots of pictures of sewing
crafts of things to make. Lunch at one of the restaurants around the square was good.
15 of us went out for dinner the night before my departure. Sonny’s BBQ is a chain with a decent salad bar, tasty BBQ, etc. They are used to groups of old folks, and easily accommodated us and didn’t even complain about individual checks. Yes, all I did was eat my way thru this visit.
January 10 I said farewell to my friends, after asking to be put on the list for the entire month of January, 2019. On to a MidLows campout in Montverde, FL. The MidLows had their regular January campout scheduled at a campground, but the wagonmaster heard from them in late November that they were cancelling our reservation. She searched for another suitable place, but couldn’t find any. She invited the club to stay on her property and we could boondock and share her utilities. I was in, I am self-contained, that works for me.
As it turned out, there were only 10 members and she had enough electric poles and outlets that all except one had at least 20 amp power. The one who didn’t, had
solar panels and he was fine, but somehow he blew his house battery, and ended up replacing it. I have a gorgeous view out my front window of the lake across the street with the McMansions dotting the shore line. Very nice accommodations!! We were able to use Lynda’s porch and kitchen and dining room to eat and play games. We had a really nice time, and I got to bond with members I really didn’t know before. One day we used the free transportation at Disney to see the Contemporary, the Polynesian, The Wilderness Lodge, etc. Quite a few had not ever seen Disney before, and this mini tour gave them a good taste.
More good food, lots of pot luck, hot dogs over a fire, and more Hand and Foot card game or RummiKube or Mexican Train. This group loves their games!!!! Their rules for Hand and Foot are different than I play with my girlies, but still fun.
Winston is having a good time here, too. Lots of dogs for him to sniff and lots of places for him to investigate. He has gotten into some type of grass seed that sticks to his fur;
I was able to borrow a wire brush to get them out as my wider bristle plastic brush did not cut it.
On the home front, my friend, John, received an invitation to the NJ Governor’s Inauguration ball this Tuesday. Bet you never thought you would hear me say this, I wish I was in NJ. John coached the new governor’s son in soccer, and I know the Murphys from Count Basie Theatre days. I sure wish I was closer, so I could attend. Have fun, John. BlackTie and all.
Kristine had her 35
th birthday this week. She and her husband went to a fancy hotel/spa in the Poconos for some pregnancy pampering.
I move on tomorrow, a few days at a fancy campground, then back to limited accommodations at the RV Trade show. No, no new RVs for me, it’s just a fun event.
Kat out.
