Washington DC Washington DC Washington DC

Here is the road sign welcoming us the Washington D.C.
We arrived here on Friday from Carlisle, PA. We are staying at a KOA in Millersville, MD. which is about an hours drive outside Washington D.C. We chose to stay here because they offer a shuttle each day into D.C. for $10 and we figured that would be a better way to go instead of us trying to drive it ourselves. They drop you off in front of the Capitol at 10am and pick you back up at 5pm. We of course had to find daycare for Karlie and luckily there was a place close by that was open every day except for Sundays. That said we made our plans to go into D.C. on Sat. We started at the Capitol and took a tour which took about 2 hours. The tour didn't last that long but after you stood in line for the tickets and then took the tour, that's about how long we were there. Of course no one was there because they are not in session right now but at least we got to see Pelosi's office and the rotunda and where the chambers are and a few other areas. Julie, I took a picture of Pelosi's office

for you. Tried to leave her a message but they was no one at her affice when we got there. Dang! The Capitol bldg is a beautiful building with a lot of ornate architecture. It is unbelievable that they did all that such a long time ago.

After lunch we went over to the American Indian Smithsonian which is one of the newest museums and it was very interesting. It is full of aritifacts and also has a lot of interesting history on the different tribes and their backgrounds. We then walked next door to the Air and Space Museum. It was getting late in the day so we really didn't get to spend as much time in there as we really could have. You think that you will have plenty of time to see things but the day seems to fly. There are space ships, airplanes, and space artifacts all throughout this huge museum. We spent a couple hours in there before we had to leave to go back to catch the shuttle. It was hot and humid so walking around had really zapped our strength. We were ready to catch that shuttle back to the RV park

at 5pm. I tell you. Sunday will be a down day since we don't have daycare for Karlie. I think we will all need it. 😊K

This is from the side of the Capitol. There is a park all the way around it which is where we are walking.

This is the top if the inside of the rotunda. It is all painted by hand on plaster. The man who painted it climbed up there every day to paint. I forget how long it took him exactly. Something like a year. Amazing huh?

This is the rotunda from farther away. The middle picture you can see in the middle. You still can't see how high it is but believe me it is high up there.

This is the Hall of Statues that leads into House of Representatives where they meet and also where the President gives his State of the Union Address. Pelosi's office is just outside this area.

This is the actual Wirhgt Brothers plane. They canged the canvas on the top in 1985 but other than that everything is the original. Quite fascinating!

This is just a shot I took of planes flying over the museum. They are flying like this all over the building.

Don is standing in front of an actual plane engine. It's big isn't it? He doesn't look very happy because he didn't feel very well. He started to feel better after he got cooled down.
