Editor's NOTE: Normally Glenn proof-read's my blog and does some major editing, however I am not asking him to do this for me, since he needs a break. So bear with me if there are misspelled words and the grammar is incorrect. Thanks for reading.
Also, I've changed the format for the most recent entries to be on top.
Glenn and I did a letterbox outside of Meriden, CT at a Cemetery there. It just started to rain as we were looking up the clues.
We spent most of Saturday resting, taking a nap and watching the US Olympics.
On Sunday we drove to Jack and RoseMary's house in Wolcott, CT. We first met Jack and Rosemary on our NCL Cruise to South America. They were always playing the Trivia games. Glenn and I liked to go to the lounge and play some of the games. Several times we would stop and visit with Jack and RoseMary in the lobby or round about the cruise ship .
We did a letterbox outside of a Comfort Suites Hotel. Nice clues. We also had plenty of time to get to Jack and RoseMary's house. I had offered to bring dessert, so we stopped at a grocery store and purchase rhubarb and strawberry pie. We later purchased some vanilla ice cream when we were closer to their house. We did stop at an Apple Orchard to just look around. They were selling everything about Apples and homemade goodies. We had kind of wished we had purchased the pie there, but it was quite a bit more expensive than the grocery store bought one.
We had a delicious lunch at the Jack and RoseMary's house. They can TALK. But good talk. Jack was in the finance world with car manufacturers - such as Toyota, Hyundai and others. We really enjoyed our 2 hour time with them. I wonder if they get stops by folks that they have just met on other cruise ships?
We left their house at around 1pm or so, and headed towards Pennsylvania. We had to trust "Besty" to navigate for us through the highways towards NYC. We noticed stops/exits for Sandy Hook, CT (where there was a school shooting several years ago) and Chappaqua, NY (where the Clintons have a home.)
It was slow going over the George Washington Bridge. Once we crossed into NJ, we were driving near Newark. We stopped at a
Gas Station and took a pit stop for me. We called Verna and she suggested that we drive to Allentown Bethlehem highway then down towards Lancaster. At this point, it was raining CATS and DOGS. But there were no traffic accidents or anything, just lots of cornfields and Amish and Mennonite farms.
I don't remember what time we arrived at Verna and Earl's house, but we asked to watch the Closing Ceremony of the Olympics. We went downstairs to the basement and sat in the easy chair and watched TV, plus we talked a-mile-a-minute.
Verna and Earl are from the New Holland, PA area and have been volunteers for 15+ years at the Intermission's conference in Guatemala each February. We have connected with Verna especially since she does the photography. Since I like to learn, I'm frequently asking her advice and such. Even last year, I asked if she wanted to get up early and go watch the sunrise. Several years ago we did that together, took pictures in the cool, clear morning air as the sun slowly rose over beautiful Lake Atitlán.
