Cuttyhunk, MA to Niantic Bay, CT

Oct 29. Cutty Hunk Pond, MA to Niantic Bay, CT.

The winds calmed down this morning. Ximena washed her hair with nice boiling water while Vitto did a little provisioning at the only store on the Island, “The Market” is open from 0800 to 0900 and again at 1600 to 1700. Such is the pace of living on Cuttyhunk where the 40 year round residents are all related. At 0914 we got underway. In Buzzards Bay the wind was blowing NW 10 to 15 with gusts up to 18 Kts with seas at 2 ft. The temperature was 51º F but it felt like 45º F. And the visibility was normal 10 nm.
We entered Rhode Island Sound in between Block Island and Point Judith at 1333.
At 1451 we passed Watch Hill heading 285ºM.
At 1525 left Cerberus Shoal on out port side.
At 1609 we went by Race Rock Light House pretty impressive. We could see the high rip currents in the surface. We had the current against us of 4 Kts. Our speed went down to almost 4.8 knots. We were worried we weren’t going to make it to our next stop before dark.
At 1628 we left Valiant Rock on our port side and change course to 305ºM.
At 1706 we passed Barlett Reef Lt on our starboard side. We changed course to 330ºM and entered Niantic Bay, Ct.
At 1730 turned to 359º around White Rock and Little Rock.
We anchored at 1752 just before sunset at 41 º 19’17”N 072º11’07”W in Niantec Bay, CT. Just off the shore in calm but rolly water
We traveled 63 nm in 9 hours.
