The goals for the first day were two-fold: to see contemporary art and to drive to Baltimore. The latter would take up most of the day. The art in question is at the Aldrich Museum in southwestern Conneticut. Getting there, though, entailed experiencing much of what this day would be like. The most efficient way of getting there is I-84. Tollbooth from hell I-84 in Conneticut is very much a Jeckyl and Hyde highway. The eastern half is a pleasant drive; the western half is utter hell. Before even getting there, I had to contend with the Southbridge split. Long distance travel out of Boston generally goes in one of four directions, northeast to Maine, northwest to Montreal, west to upstate New York and the Midwest, or southwest along the eastern seaboard. The last two have ... read more

At long last, I have escaped New York City. This place grabbed me and spun me around like a roller coaster. It's easy for me to see how people fall in love with the place, as there is everything and more importantly, everyone there. I met all sorts of people, which of course happens in every city, but even *unique-er* here. As it happens, the blog I wrote about the steam explosion was a "featured blog" on xanga.com, so my email was flooded with comments and still is. The day after the steam explosion I did nothing all day but think and houseclean (and pics up), then headed to Amy's work to drop off a book and try on glasses. Found some really fantastic ones. Turned out I was in Greenwich Village, I had to wipe ... read more

Its been a while since I've written anything... I have been here at my Grandma's house in Stratford, Connecticut, since July 4th. My ride out of Quebec (beginning July 3rd) was very very nice, Northern Maine is stunningly beautiful. I had sort of assumed that the entire east coast was overpopulated, hence everyone going west. Not so, there's hardly anyone up there. I took a state road (201) halfway through the state and ended up camping a night at a trailer place for the price of "whatever's in my pocket", a deftly negotiated fee that ended up being $13, when the usual fee is $25. Sweet. All my neighbors were set up for the summer with cars and campers and most were watching TV by the fire. Ahhh American summer. I built a fire and ... read more

Location: Stuck in Traffic outside of NYC. woot. Cos cob, CT What a weird name. Blogger: Katie So DJ's friends are pretty great. The mixes that we've listened to so far from Jen and Kirsten are pretty amazing. I'm really a huge fan of a good mix. It's a skill really. So thanks for your thoughtfulness, it must have taken some serious time. We've just been cruising to the tunes and commenting on the various songs, cars on the road, etc. It's weird to again be driving through Fairfield County, and know that we're not stopping in Fairfield for me to go to school. I really miss the people and the place in general, and it's still very weird to think that things are over. This summer so far has been a whirlwind and will ... read more

Fairfield ReststopKatie Location: Fairfield, CT Reststop Blogger: DJ Well we just pulled off at a rest area outside of fairfield CT. I'm still doing all the driving and I probably will be until after we get though NYC. My sister has explained that she'll likely freak out trying to deal with stop and go traffic leaving NYC during rush hour. Probably a good point. I think this blog was an intersting idea by Katie, shes been updating from laptop and I'm just updating from my cell phone. We aren't stopping long so I have had a chance to get the hang of the website, but I'm sure Ill wor out all the bells and whistles tonight (Yes Leah, that probably means video) Anyhoo, the GPS says that we are due there at 9:07 if we don't ... read more

Well this is my first entry, and not much to say other then I am leaving, on a jet plane, in about 16 hours from now and I am rather excited/nervous. This will be my travel journal for the next few months, so visit here for pictures, (apparently) videos, and entries about my travels in Europe. I will update as often as I can. Wish me luck... Warmest Regards, Mikolaj "Future World Traveler" Recko The use of travelling is to regulate imagination by reality, and, instead of thinking how things may be, to see them as they are. Welp, I (and my luggage, thankfully) made it through the first round of take off and landing; three more to go. I'm in Stamford, CT, which is about a 45 minute train ride from The Big Apple. I believe we'll be checking out the Guggeennheeiimm and a bit of shopping tomorrow. That's fairly exciting, considering I'm still partially in tourist-mode, for this is only my third time to NYC. I'm not excited at all about Europe, yet at least. I'm already beginning to miss specific people and I'm sure more will follow soon. I just hope I'll get at least one visitor from the states during my four month reign in Italia. As far as I know, my roommates are like me... only opposite. I, along with everyone else who's ever met me, expected that. I ... read more
