Bothan Taistil this is the RV we travelled around the southwest. September 23, 2004.
Thursday, and we are on our way to the “Wild West”. We left “the Burg” around 10 a.m. and drove for over 500 miles to Effingham IL
Sept. 24, Friday.
Again this is a travel day over 500 miles to a campground in Hays, Indiana
Sept. 25, Saturday.
Kansas
We made a stop today in Kansas. The highpoint is Mt Sunflower the elevation is 4039, and it is on private property. It is cattle/farm country just outside the Colorado state line. We drove the Bothan through the slick dirt roads, slopping up mud everywhere. Our final climb was up the “hill” to the metal sculpture of a sunflower and an American Flag. We enjoyed meeting some folks who use the land for cattle and we heard about the family history and how this monument was established.
We continued driving and after 500 plus miles arrived at Leadville, CO. This is the jumping off point for the “high-point” in CO. Mt. Elbert. We are trying to do all the highpoints in the US. After settling in at the campground, we walked through the town and, of course, stopped in at an outdoor shop. We

Bob is looking for the mountains obtained a topo map of the Mt. Elbert area and also a recommendation for a delicious prime rib dinner at a local hotel. We took advantage of the suggestion and had a nice meal.
