Glenwood Canyon We drove about 300 miles today and I must say it was an interesting drive the entire way. First we drove over a hundred miles across a wide open sagebrush prairie with very little development, just cattle. We saw several prairie dog towns and I saw my first ever badger, although it was a dead one on the side of the road. After a short stint of urban driving through Denver we were suddenly in the mountains and done with the plains. The pass over the front range on I-70 topped out at over 11,000 feet in altitude. We saw a couple groups of bighorn sheep, then drove past some of the famous ski resorts. The last section was through a spectacular narrow canyon along the Colorado River (Glenwood Canyon). We stopped after that at a KOA in the small town of Silt, Colorado.
Barb and I are going out now to walk a little trail along the river. Tomorrow we will finally get to Utah.
