On 8th July, we invited Linda, Aaron, Erin and Adam to dinner. This was an experiment as dinner parties freak Jon out. We decided to make burgers, chicken and a vegetarian option of stuffed peppers with Quorn for Linda, who had recently watched a documentary about meat which had put her off. It was a lovely evening, although people didnt eat enough and we still have leftovers over a week on! 13th July Today was my last day at work. I worked out that during my 3 months, I have written 28 grant applications worth $70,000 and helped us secure funding for 5 years with 350 schools across Colorado through the Kids For Wish Kids programme with my Prezi. Everyone was so sweet to me and Jake even bought me a mint choc chip ice cream ... read more

We had an interesting weekend. We were meant to go to Utah and Vegas, but neither happened, as George; (Churchy’s owner) was off work with broken ribs so we couldn’t arrange to give the dog back. We could have taken him with us but Jon was reluctant and used that as an excuse so he could play Call of Duty. Luckily, Linda (Jon’s colleague) called us on Friday evening and invites us to Jackson Lake State Park the next day, to hang out by a hug lake and take her husband’s dad’s boat out. We arranged to meet Linda and her husband Aaron at 11am but they weren’t actually ready for us until 12pm, so we left the house (with Churchy) with enough time spare to stop at Starbucks on the way. We had just sat ... read more

We had a lazy weekend. Got up late on Saturday but I was desperate to gt out and do something before the storms were due to hit at about 3pm so we got our bits together and the dogs 'baby bag' and headed out to the Juneteenth festival, which is a US wide festival which celebrates the end of slavery. In some state it is a public holiday but in Denver, it is a street festival in a drug fuelled area. It is predominantly black people celebrating black culture. There was live music, stands (mainly advertising charities), games for children and food stalls. I found it sad as it was obvious this was an underprivileged area as quite a few people had breathing tubes attached to their noses and looked malnourished. There wasnt a great deal ... read more

Today was BBQ day. We were invited to Jon's colleague (Erin's) house in the afternoon for some festive memorial day grub. Memorial day (besides the historical stuff) is known locally as the official first day of summer, so lots of people have their first BBQ on this public holiday. We got up, did our weekly shopping at King Soopers, washed the dog and as per usual, Jon got distracted at the last minute with a computer issue and we were nearly an hour late for the BBQ. Erin and her husband Adam live in a townhouse in a really quiet part of Colorado. Linda and her husband Aaron were at the BBQ - they are a lovely couple and more and more people turned up to squeeze into their small patio and at most, there were ... read more

I have been quiet on the blog front as things had been ticking along nicely...until yesterday. Work has been good...dog is cute...and I was so looking forward to this weekend. It is Memorial weekend and everyone has Monday off work so we were trying to figure out what to do with this extra time!!! I suggested Vegas (12 hours on greyhound) or Utah (6 hours in car and then night in the desert) but with a pooch it wasnt fair to go that far, so I found 3 other options - Lake Pueblo National Park (2 hours away), Arapaho National Reserve and Grand Junction. We had decided on Lake Pueblo, where I wanted to do some hiking and canoeing. We would stay there overnight and go on to a dinosaur place and some other geeky place ... read more

Today is Faye's birthday. It was really nice to see her open her presents on Skype and see the family get together for their little traditional birthday celebration. To my face, she told me she liked my present... in other news, Sarah had her baby - a little girl that they have called Freya. I am gutted not to be there to see her. Teresa had her hen do which went well by all accounts. 80's themed dancing and roller skating took its toll on everyone! Work is going well here. I am given the creative freedom to come up with ideas and implement them, which I love. I am working on a project for school kids at the moment and writing and designing resources to help them fund raise. I am also trying to come ... read more

Today was a good day, despite the mishaps... We were woken by a bead breathed puppy at 5.45am, let him onto our bed where he slept on my feet until 9am when he couldn't sit still anymore. Jon and I wanted to have some time to ourselves today so we decided to tire Churchill out with a walk around Washington Park, before heading off to do our own thing for a while. Washington Park rivals any London park - it is beautiful, as is the local area. Everyone in the state seemed to have congregated to walk their dogs too, which was a little problem as Churchy barks at anything with four legs. After a 45 min walk, we took Churchy back to the apartment, put him in his crate and left him whining while we headed ... read more

We picked up Churchill from George and Jack on Monday. He is such a cute ball of fluff. We got back to ours and he went crazy with excitement. He was cute right up until bedtime when he wouldnt stop whining when we tried to put him in his dog bed. We ended up caving an had him in the bed with us but neither of us slept for fear of kicking him out of bed. it turns out Jon is an extremely good dog trainer and thought through all these little tricks to keep him in his bed. On Tuesday evening, we spent half the night picking him up and returning him to his bed every time he started whining and trying to jump on ours, He eventually stayed put. I was up at 6 ... read more
