Another beautiful sunny day so we decided to rent bikes in Fort Collins and take a ride along the Le Poudre Trail which follows the river out to Larimer County. Took us a bit to figure out how to ride "cruisers" with automatic 3 speed shifting and peddles for braking. We passed horse farms, a quarry, and a number of open parks along the way. Spotted 2 fawns hiding in the woods along the trail too. It was a hot one so on our way back into town we decided to stop at Ben & Jerry's for some ice cream and water - perfect choice. We walked around the Old Town section a bit looking in stores and saw some cool sculptures and another painted piano that Sean and Dean played (a few notes here and ... read more

We headed to Fort Collins today from Estes Park to visit Colorado State University. This is Drew's first college visit. A little early but we are in Colorado and he really thinks that he wants to go to school in Colorado. Great tour of the campus buildings and the grounds (over 1 mile square). Lots of green space, beautiful view of the mountains, and more bicycles than we've ever seen in one place. Most common modes of transportation were bikes, scooters, and skate boards. It was the first day of classes so it was a really busy day on campus. One other visitor was also from PA (Pittsburgh area). We ended the day with a good meal at a local brewery - Coopersmith's in Old Town.... read more

Last night, as we were going to bed, the next storm came in. WOW. Tony estimates that there were, on average, a dozen bolts of lightening per second. We have video of the approach of that storm which we will attempt to upload. We tried to watch "Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs". The continuous thunder was so loud that we could not hear the movie at all. We opted to go to bed early. Michelle was really scared by the storm (which had increased to nearly 2 dozen bolts per second) so we all cuddled and finally fell asleep. The storm lasted nearly 4 hours at that intensity before finally clearing. This morning, when we woke up, it was like the scene in "Independence Day" when Will Smith's character wakes up and sees all the ... read more

16th May Not too eventful. I went to the gym, swam, read, watched a movie. 17th May Went into ALAC again. I made 200 phone calls to past participants of the Country Club Classic event they held last year (blind beer tasting while dressed in golfing clobber) and tried to encourage them to sign up again this year. The English accent softened some of them into signing up. I dont like hassling people over the phone but after doing it and getting people's feedback. I can see the merit in it. I dont think it would work in the UK though. People are too bloody rude. I was also helopoing Joe prepare for a cocktail event for the charities high value donors. They were showing a documentary 'Revenge of the Electric Car' and then hosting a ... read more

There's a reason that people who live abroad, live abroad. Instead of living in whatever country it is, you are really living in a place more aptly named Never-Neverland. There is a sense while abroad in which you do not age, you do not suffer consequences and until you return to the aptly named “real world,” you can be whoever you want to be, because no one is around to know the difference. I never really took advantage of the latter in either of my living abroad experiences. I always found it harder to be someone other than me. As Mark Twain once said, “If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything,” I guess I have a bad memory. I did however reap the other benefits of Never-Neverland. Though I'm not sure reap ... read more

Today is our final day before the flight back to Denver tomorrow. We started out at our hotel in the thriving metropolis of La Push, WA. We had breakfast at the same restaurant as we had dinner last night. But this morning, cloudy as it was, we could count 24 bald eagles from where we sat looking out the window of the restaurant. A few of them were very close and we went crazy with the cameras. After a nice breakfast, we started driving. We drove across Highway 101 to Port Townsend, one of three U.S. cities that is on the National Historic Registry. We parked and walked about four or five blocks up and back in the historic area, full of the oldest buildings, very interesting shopping, nice restaurants, and scenes of the water. We ... read more

Well... Less than 24 hours to go until I am leaving on this crazy expedition. My flight leaves at 9:40 A.M. from DIA, and because it is an International flight, I have to be there at 7:40 A.M.- or I will not be going. That would be a bummer. And my blog would probably end, because it would be extremely lame writing about the things I would hypothetically be doing when I am there. I don't know if it has really hit me that I am going to be away from home for a whole month... in a place I've never been... getting there alone... not knowing the language... and where I might be presented with a situation like the movie "Taken". But let's hope it doesn't get to that level. If it does, my dad ... read more

NOV. 4, 2009-May 13, 2011 What if she could? What if she had to? She would run away. That’s what she’d do and she knew it, from the first day. If they broke up she would run away. She’d run back to the life she was leading before he came along. Back to the life which was hers, a life before love was found. It was as if that life was on hold. Like the pause button had been hit and was waiting to resume, right where she left off. She was too scared, or perhaps to aware, to give it up fully. To let it go completely. So she held on to fragments of a life she once thought would be forever. A seashell from the beach in Puerto Viejo, a faded photo of a ... read more
