We spent most of the day riding through Rocky Mountain National Park taking in the beautiful mountain vistas. The weather was sunny and in the mid 60s when we left Estes and went down to the 50s as we increased in elevation through the park. There was a lot of Elk visible in the park - mostly laying down a good distance from the road. We walked on a few trails to see the mountains a bit clearer. And as we have in the past we stopped at the Continental Divide as we always marvel that water flows in 2 different directions at this spot. Saw lots of motorcycles - Dean's sending a note to Santa for his 50th birthday. And we also saw a lot of bicycles - it's hard to believe that they climb ... read more

We started our journey early this morning at the airport in Philadelphia. Flight was great and arrived on time in Denver. Our first venture was to Sheplers in Denver so that Drew could check out some western wear there. He has a thing for belt buckles and found 3 there that he liked along with a new cowboy hat. From there we headed toward Estes Park and on the way we stopped in Boulder. There was quite a bit going on down Pearl Street. Sean assisted a street performer that was double jointed and got himself out of a straight jacket - an interesting sight. Back on the road and to Estes Park where we settled in and walked around town. Drew found 3 more belt buckles and Sean found a Colorado Rockies hat and shirt ... read more

Our last day in RMNP was sunny with bright blue skies and fluffy clouds., temps weren’t bad either. The Trail Ridge Rd was still closed so we decided to do a geological interest driving tour (Frank always finds these books) around Estes Park. Going out of the campground we saw elk grazing through the campsites. There were also quite a few at the Visitors Center in Estes Park. The drive was very scenic and took us through the Big Thompson River canyon. Frank found some interesting rocks on his roadside stops. We got back to Estes Park around noon and I did some grocery shopping. Then we checked into a campsite to wait for Gary the RV Repairman. He showed up with the part before 3:00pm and it worked!! Thank you Lord! Tomorrow we will head ... read more

My trip to the Colorado Rockies began on Thursday, August 6th. We got into Denver about 11:30 pm. It was rediculous. My mom picked the rental car. A Kia Spectra. Now she wants to buy the car. :S The first day (Friday) I got up "early". My spirit was quickly dampened because I realized that Mountain Time is one hour behind what I have been living in. So, Central Time, I woke up about 8:00. On Friday, we took a tram up to the top of one of the mountains. We being my mother and I. We stayed with my grandparents at their time share house. It was amazingly awesome. Mom bought lunch. Grandpa bought dinner. Amy climbed the mountain in the back yard. My mother and I went shopping for most of the day on ... read more

July 29 Today we left Eagle and went over to the trail to Hanging Lake. It was a lot of work, but worth it in the end. Then we got into the car and drove back up to Estes Park. It went from sunny and warm to rainy to foggy and rainy. It might as well be Wisconsin, we can't see the mountains. Shane was going to hike up the Twin Sisters Peak, but if it is still foggy tomorrow, why bother? Wish us a dry night. :-(... read more

Today, we woke up to fog. There was a slight possibility of sun at first, but that quickly dispersed. Podo eventually decided to go for it - hike to the summit of (one of the) Twin Sisters Peaks. He did a great job, finishing it in about 3 hours (the book says 4). Lobelia read Fellowship of the Ring and tended the fire. We are at Starbucks right now entering the blog for today and soon we will go back to our campsite and feast on mac 'n cheese and mashed potatoes (I know, it sounds weird). Tomorrow am we start back, going through the Black Hills and ending up at Kadoca SD for the night. One more blog entry and then home to MN. We like MN, even though it doesn't have mountains.... read more

July 26 We hiked part of the day to Ypsilon Lake. The low O2 and strenuous terrain is getting to me. We had a downpour last night, but the tent stayed dry. We both love Smartwool socks. Shane and I bought stainless steel water bottles today. I know, we don't need more water bottles. We are on the move South tomorrow. As usual, we don't know about the WIFI situation, so we will see about posting something tomorrow. I got on with Qwest today. I saw a FABULOUS blue jay - blue body with a black head Steller's Jay. ... read more

Today we traveled from Spearfish SD to Estes Park. We saw some beautiful scenery in the Black Hills. The usual flat, dry, boring land in most of Wyoming. There were views of mountains in the distance. Lobelia and Podo saw the Kingdom of Mordor from Wyoming. It looked menacing. Now that we're in it, it is not so bad. We have a good campsite the next two nights. This one is not so good, It's like having strangers in your living room. Also, there are horses next door. /Their manure stinks. Podo says it's because they eat meat and swig whiskey on the trail. Tomorrow we move, but will not have WIFI, so it is doubtful if I can post new pictures. July 25 We are currently in the Starbucks in Estes Park, charging the phones, ... read more

Ryan: So, obviously, there haven't been any posts for some time now. We're back from the trip at this point, and have been for a few days. We stopped posting because every time we'd get to somewhere where we were able to post, it was coincidentally also somebody's house who we were visiting, and spending time with them seemed more important than blogging. Anyway, we've decided to write posts about all of the things that happened in the latter half of the trip now, to the best of our recollection. Also, we forgot the camera today, so pictures will get posted later. And now, Rocky Mountain National Park. Andrew: So, we were dropped off at the entrance to RMNP on the highway 34 by my aunt and grandparents after a short detour/stop in Estes Park. We ... read more

Hi all, As you may be aware, this website was down. We are still alive and traveling (in Colorado). We have very limited internet and cell phone access right now. In addition, we put Joe's cell phone through the wash so we only have my phone. We will post in the next couple of days or so. Kerri... read more
